Top Ten Tuesday: 2025 Releases I Did Read in 2025

Hi and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday Post! As we jump a little bit back and forth between looking back on 2025 and forward to 2026 this month, it’s now time to do the first once again. And this will be the last post doing so, I promise. This week, it’s time to talk about all our bookish discoveries of 2025! This can be anything, from new-to-you authors, to trends, to genres and so forth. I have been stating a lot lately that I don’t really anticipate new releases anymore because of the disappointment I often face and that I want to focus on my backlog instead. But when it’s time to talk about our bookish discoveries of 2025, it eventually is the perfect moment to list all the 2025 releases I have read in 2025. I won’t limit myself to just ten books, I will go all the way and list everything that has been published in 2025. Dutch translations are left out, as they often publish way later than the original book. So, are you ready for probably a long list? Okay, let’s go! This list is ordered from first to latest read and links direct you to my reviews.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

  1. A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson
  2. Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
  3. Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett
  4. Deep End by Ali Hazelwood
  5. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
  6. Red Flags by Robin Venn
  7. Watch Me by Tahereh Mafi
  8. Hoe klein de wereld is by Carla de Jong & Walter Lucius
  9. Fun For the Whole Family by Jennifer E. Smith
  10. Greenteeth by Molly O’Neill
  11. Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
  12. One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune
  13. Fearless by Lauren Roberts
  14. What Happens in Amsterdam by Rachel Lynn Solomon
  15. The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong
  16. The Listeners by Maggie Stiefvater
  17. Noorderlicht by Carry Slee
  18. The Rose Bargain by Sasha Peyton Smith
  19. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
  20. Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  21. My Friends by Fredrik Backman
  22. The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig
  23. When the Fireflies Dance by Aisha Hassan
  24. Broeder Joep by Joep van Poorten
  25. En wat dan liefde is by Lisette Jonkman
  26. Semi-well Adjusted Despite Literally Everything by Alyson Stoner
  27. Hoe overleef ik alles wat anders gaat dan gedacht by Francine Oomen
  28. Finding My Way by Malala Yousafzai
  29. The Persians by Sanam Mahloudji
  30. Arcana Academy by Elise Kova
  31. The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan
  32. Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber

From the 96 books I’ve read, the majority is indeed from my backlist. However, I didn’t count Dutch translations from older books, because translations often take a while before they get published. A book would be a 2025 release in Dutch, although it has been out for a longer while in English. Sometimes even over a decade. After analyzing this, I can conclude that I stick true to my word and maintain a good balance between my backlog and the new releases!

What are your bookish discoveries of 2025?

  1. The delays in publishing between the US and Australia used to drive me insane, thankfully it’s not all that common anymore.
    Thanks for sharing your #TTT

  2. It looks as though you read some very popular 2025 releases. It’s great that you’ve been able to stay true to yourself and focus your reading on your backlist books.

  3. I want to focus on my TBR more this year. I’m failing so far but the year is young 🤣 the Fourth Wing series is on my TBR. I enjoyed all the Emily Wilde books.

    Have a great week!

  4. Wow that is a long list!

  5. I love the Emily Wilde series, though I still have to read the last one! I hope you find many more amazing books this year 😊.

  6. Sounds like a nice balance of new and backlog reading indeed! About a quarter of my reads were books from my backlog (books owned before 2025 started), but a lot of the rest were older books too, just 2025 was the year I happened to get to them.

I feel like bloggers chasing new releases sometimes lose sight of some really good reads that they didn’t get round to when they were new (or didn’t know about when they were new), so I think you’re wise in trying to keep a balance for that reason too!

  7. These are all new to me! So many books I haven’t read!

  8. Ocean Vuong is a good writer.

  9. You have such a great variety here! I really want to get to The Knight and the Moth soon!

  10. That indeed seems like a great balance between backlog and new releases!

  11. That’s an impressive list! I haven’t read any of those books, but I do want to read Atmosphere and the Emily Wilde series.

  12. Ah, there are a lot of books in here that are on my TBR, and I already own them and are waiting for me to pick them up! This is great that you have read all of them, and unfortunately, I have to read the English versions because they don’t translate them to Bulgarian fast enough… sometimes there are no translations at all. Happy reading Laurie!

  13. That’s an impressive list!! Good job! I have read 12 of them. 🙂

  14. The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong is on my TBR and it is due to having read On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous.

This is a great list and thank you for linking your reviews.

  15. Very impressive list! Some really good reads here, I read quite a few of these myself in 2025.

  16. I need to read Alchemy of Secrets!

  17. My daughter-in-law loved Deep End, but I haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m glad you were able to enjoy some of the new releases last year. I know what you mean about books being over-hyped, leading to disappointment.

  18. Woah, that is a decent list! I keep seeing Rebecca Yarros’ books in the local bookshop, but they’re always out on loan at the library. Perhaps it’s time to add my name to the borrowing queue…

  19. What a great list of books read in 2025 and I see some that I have enjoyed or hope to enjoy.

  20. Great job reading so many backlist books! I really want to read Sunrise on the Reaping and Bury Our Bones😁

  21. I’m a huge Backman fan so it’s great to see him on your list there, even if My Friends didn’t quite win you over. I do hope you give him another chance.

    1. I definitely will!

  22. Out of those, I also read Sunrise on the Reaping and The Rose Bargain. I want to read The Alchemy of Secrets sometime soon.

  23. That’s a lot of 2025 releases! I’ve read Emily Wilde and Bury Our Bones, and enjoyed both of those.

  24. So many great ones! I see a few of my favorites from 2025 on your list. Congrats on combining new releases and older books during your reading year!

  25. Great list and well done for reading so many from your backlist. I’m also trying to do better with that this year but I don’t think I’ll reach these type of figures!
I would definitely like to read the Schwab.
    Lynn 😀

  26. A Language of Dragons was on my TBR for last year since the beginning of the year but I somehow never got around to it. I hope I manage to read it some time this year. Looks like you had a lot of great books!

  27. I think you struck a really nice balance between new releases and backlist books. It’s so easy to be distracted by newer titles. I personally want to read more of my own backlist books this year.

  28. Great list! I’ve only read My Friends so far, but there are a couple I hope to pick up soon: Atmosphere, Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil, The Listeners, Great Big Beautiful Life and One Golden Summer.
