The Quarter Year Crisis Book Tag | 2025

It’s Thursday and that’s always a good day for a tag, isn’t it? I haven’t been doing a Booktag for like the entire year, so it’s time to do one now. We’re halfway through April and therefore we’ve already finished the first quarter of 2025. Time flies! I’ve been seeing the Quarter Year Crisis Booktag going around again and this reminded me that I also did this tag twice, in 2023 and 2024. So, here we are with the 2025 version. How is my 2025 reading going so far?

How many books have you read so far?

I actually thought I already had read more books by now, but this month has been very slow it seems. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the 26 books I’ve read so far, this means that I’m already over the halfway mark of my reading goal of 50 books.

Have you found a book that you think might be a 2025 favourite?

Unfortunately, I haven’t been quite as lucky with the enjoyment of the books I’ve read this year. If I need to pick a book here, I think that might be Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, but A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson was also a very pleasant surprise.

Any least favourite book of the year?

Oh, there are a few! I had 2 DNFs in March, and my current read is applying for a position on that exact same pile. I’m reading Phantasma by Kaylie Smith and honestly this is kind of a Kingdom of the Wicked rip-off. The cover is similar, so is the plot and the approach. Two sisters, the nine circles of hell… No, I’m not impressed so far. But if we talk about books I actually finished, I think Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu is the most disappointing book yet. And I didn’t expect that, even though I knew that this is not romantasy.

Most read genre?

This is no different from 2024, I have read 16 books within the romance genre so far, closely followed by fantasy with 13 books.

A book that surprised me?

Beautiful Mess by Claire Christian as I didn’t like another book I’ve read by this author. Moreover, this particular book has been on my TBR for over 7 years. It’s YA, an age category I’m slowly outgrowing and therefore hardly read these days. I therefore didn’t expect to get sucked into this story, but I did.

A book that has come out in 2025 that I haven’t yet read?

I’m not anticipating many books this year, but I was hoping to have read Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli by now. Especially as I enjoyed The Crimson Moth last year.

One goal you made that you’re succeeding at?

I’m well on my way to read 50 books ha! I actually have to do a check-in on my 2025 goals, I think.

One goal that you need to focus on?

Crossposting my reviews. This is an ongoing goal, but I keep forgetting to do so.

This quarter year crisis is not that bad apparently, but let’s wait and see what will happen in the Mid Year Freak Out tag. I won’t tag anybody, consider yourselves tagged!
