I keep saying it, but this year is flying by it seems. It’s already April and that means it’s time for me to write yet another monthly wrap up! March was, as I remember, quite uneventful. I got some kind of stomach bug, had my first 2 DNFs of the year and read some more books. And of course, went to work. The month was over before I knew it! So, let’s recap it, shall we?
My monthly stats
Compared to the previous two months, march was actually pretty good. I started 12 books, of which I finished 10. Unfortunately, 2 books weren’t working for me. These 10 books are divided into 3,056 pages and 43.73 hours of audiobooks. I read mostly fantasy and knocked most books of my monthly TBR which I have set for this month. From these 10 books, I hauled 1 this month. In total, my March bookhaul contains 9 books. In terms of ratings, the past month was quite good, my average time to finish a book was 3 days and my average rating for this month is 3.25 stars.
The Books I’ve Read
- The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem – I was so certain that this book would have been right up my alley, but it happened out not to be. The premise was interesting, but I was so bored. I manage to read a good 56% of it before I decided that this wouldn’t spark my joy any longer and I had no choice but to DNF it. Nothing happened up until that point and then it’s done for me. 📖 DNF
- Splintered by A.G. Howard – I wasn’t sure whether this book would be for me, but when I saw this Alice in Wonderland reimagination for a highly discounted price, I decided to give it a fair chance. It was okay, but nothing more than that. I therefore won’t continue this trilogy. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐
- The Girl Behind the Wall by Mandy Robotham – My introduction to this author was with this historical fiction set in Berlin during the Cold War, when the Berlin Wall was built. I cheated a bit, because I started the audiobook and finished the ebook. I just wasn’t enjoying the audiobook, a new problem that arose since Storytel decreased the maximum speed to 2.0 while I listen a bit faster. However, I enjoyed the story. 🎧📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao – Whereas I was eagerly awaiting this book and really wanted to continue this series, this book and I weren’t a match at all. Compared to Iron Widow, the first book in this series, this one was so slow and dull. Too much politics and no action. I wasn’t enjoying myself and had to DNF. 🎧 DNF
- Deep End by Ali Hazelwood – I wasn’t expecting to read this book, let alone to like it. But I did! 📖 ⭐⭐⭐,5
- The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan – Another cheater, because I listened to both the audiobook version as well as the ebook I own in my boxset. It was okay, but I think Percy Jackson and his adventures aren’t really for me (anymore?). 🎧📖 ⭐⭐⭐
- Quicksilver by Callie Hart – A Booktok hype can either go right or wrong for me, there’s hardly anything in between. This one went wrong on so many levels. The character and world building are lacking. On the other hand, the writing was fine which made this book a fairly easy read. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐
- Red Flags by Robin Venn – A Dutch romance I listened to as an inbetweener. It was fine, nothing more than that. The amount of “popular” language used annoyed me to bits, but the character development was great. 🎧 ⭐⭐⭐
- Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins – I will be talking some more about this book in my review that I still need to right, but this book was one of the most enjoyable ones I’ve read in March. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- The Forgotten Garden by Sharon Gosling – Another book I listened too as a palate cleanser, and it was again okay. Not too spectacular, but that was not what I was expecting from it. Review to come. 🎧 ⭐⭐⭐
- Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu – This book has been sitting on my TBR for a longer while and I was looking forward to read it. Whereas I enjoyed other books by this author, this was not the case here. I never got intrigued by the story. In fact, I was beyond bored. It’s slow paced and the little action that was there, wasn’t enough to let me get invested. This therefore was slightly disappointing. It’s more of a regular fantasy and I think I’m not used to that anymore? And maybe this kind of fantasy just isn’t for me? Review to come. 📖 ⭐⭐
- The Reality of Everything by Rebecca Yarros – The final book I finished in March and the final book in the “Flight & Glory” series. This one was emotional as always. For me, this author excels in contemporary romance and not that much in fantasy. Review to come. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
