Every now and then, it’s refreshing to try something new on the blog with the hopes of this particular new thing to be working out well. One of my never ending reading goals is to decrease my TBR. I’m a mood reader at heart, so I find it tough to stick to a TBR that’s set in stone. However, The Storygraph has a nice feature that has proven to be helpful to me in terms of cleaning this TBR. It’s called the “Up Next Queue”. At the start of every month, I will be listing what’s currently in this queue and I will try my best to read these books in said month. I will also add some possibilities, books I want to read, but aren’t in this queue. This to satisfy the mood reader in me. So, what’s on the TBR for this month?
In the queue
Splintered by A. G. Howard is a book I was a bit ignorant about at first. I wasn’t sure whether this would be for me, but when I saw this book with a huge discount I decided to give it a go. I bought this one late last year and it has been in the queue ever since.
Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu is a book I have been talking about multiple times now. I want to read this in 2025, but I also did in 2024. I was so close to picking it up, but January of this year was overflooded with dragons and I just couldn’t handle another dragon story, let alone another fantasy book. Moving this to the queue will hold me accountable to pick it up I believe.
The Reality of Everything by Rebecca Yarros has been in the queue for a shorter while, but on the TBR since its Dutch release back in 2020 or 2021 I believe. I didn’t pick it up still and I don’t know why. Last year I read the fourth book in this “Flight & Glory” series, so I think the break has been long enough to pick up the final instalment now. I wanted to pick this up in January as well, but I already read too many books by this author back-to-back at that point.
A book I really anticipated – much to my surprise – is Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao. I pre-ordered this audiobook, but just didn’t get to it yet. It’s one of my priority titles though.
In the middle of the Covid pandemic, I read Legend by Marie Lu. I’m so behind on old YA novels and this one was read for a challenge. However, I never continued this series. It has been 4.5 years, but I hope I can still get into Prodigy.
Possibilities
As soon as I heard about Quicksilver by Callie Hart getting a translation, I knew I wanted to read it. I pre-ordered it and it got delivered in the end of January. It’s still a brave move to publish this book a week after Onyx Storm though, but I want to read it nevertheless.
Maggie Stiefvater’s “The Raven Boys” is being republished in Dutch with the aim of finally translating the entire series. In 2014, only the first two books got translated. I believe this series struggles to find its audience here because of the uniqueness of the story. It’s definitely not your standard, easy YA. It’s different and that’s not for everyone. Years ago I’ve tried to read the first book in English, but didn’t understand it. Last year I reread it in Dutch and surprisingly enjoyed it, despite its focus on spirituality which is not my cup of tea. Now, The Dream Thieves is out in the world and I pre-ordered it.
I have a strong love-hate relationship with books by Ali Hazelwood. Deep End wouldn’t be my personal choice to read, but it’s for a book club. Even though I am possibly not attending the meeting, my curiosity got the better of me and I have to try it.
Have you read any of these books? And what books are on your March TBR?
