Monthly Wrap Up | February 2025

It’s march… How do you mean, MARCH already?! February flew by in the blink of an eye. It’s a shorter month and this naturally affected my reading a little bit. Because, I simply had less time to finish books. I still managed to read a decent amount though, but I already know that this month was very, very average in terms of my rating. Apart from this month flying by so quickly, it’s not been that spectacular or anything. I was able to go horse-riding again after the glanders outbreak and apart from this, it was mostly work, work, work. But what did February bring me in terms of books?

My monthly stats

I already knew that this month would be a bit harder. I was struggling with picking up books or finishing the books I already picked up. I will get back to this, because there’s one book that played a major part in this situation. This resulted in a total of 6 books read, of which I hauled 2 this month. I therefore read 1,139 pages and listened to a total amount of 36.25 hours of audiobooks. I actually thought this would be more, so this is quite confronting. It also took me longer to finish a book, because of what I stated above. The average time to finish a book was 5 days in February. When looking into the languages I read my books in, it’s 50/50. Three books in Dutch, three in English. As already predicted, my average rating for February is a bit low, this relates to the individual rating of the books I’ve read. My monthly rating for February is 3.08 ⭐. Well, let me break this down for you.

My read books

  • 📖: eBook
  • 🎧: audiobook
  1. Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros – I finally was able to start this book in the last day of January, so naturally I couldn’t finish it before the start of February. I’m a bit conflicted on this book. I had a enjoyable reading time, but it drags a lot and at times it’s so vague I didn’t understand what’s happening. My initial rating was 3.5, so that’s what you’ll see in my review. But I lowered my rating after some more thought on it. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐
  2. Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles – I needed a break from fantasy, so it was time for some historical fiction. This book is set in both WWI and 1987. As so often, the timeline in the past intrigued me more than the second timeline. I learnt a lot when listening to this novel! 🎧 ⭐⭐⭐
  3. Schaduwdochter by Rachel van Charante – This is a Dutch book and another historical fiction. Coincidentally, this takes place during WWI as well, alongside another timeline in present day. Whereas I enjoyed other books by this author, this one does feel a bit mediocre to me. It actually falls flat. It’s a series starter and I’m curious for the next book in this series nevertheless. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐
  4. Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole – I got back to fantasy and honestly this book was surprisingly interesting. It is a slow-burn in the broadest sense of the word, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It took me a while to finish it though, because I developed a habit of hardly picking up a book on the weekends. However, I’m intrigued and I want to know how this story will evolve. 🎧 ⭐⭐⭐,5
  5. Tokyo Dreaming by Emiko Jean – I finally picked up this book after I’ve been meaning to read it for years! This is a direct follow-up to the first book in this duology and I certainly enjoyed it. However, it’s quite forgettable. 📖 ⭐⭐⭐
  6. Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett – I was eagerly awaiting my pre-order after enjoying the second book in this series a lot. Unfortunately, this one falls flat to me. In fact, I was fed up with it towards the end. My review will be up shortly. 🎧 ⭐⭐⭐
