Let’s Talk Bookish: How Many Books Do You Read In A Year?

It’s Friday and that means that it’s time for another Let’s Talk Bookish post! A bit later than I would normally post, but I forgot it was Friday yet again and so on and so on. Well, this week we discuss the number of books we read in a year. This week’s topic is suggested by Jillian @ The Bookish Butterfly.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, this meme is hosted by , Aria @ Book Nook Bits and since February 2025, Dini @ DiniPandaReads is the co-host. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.

Prompts: How many books do you typically read in a year? Do you always track your reading? Does keeping track of the books you read motivate you, or stress you out? How do you keep track of the books you read? Do you have a 2025 reading goal?

Well, it really differs how many books I will read in a year. Previously, it was not that much. However, this changed when I started blogging in 2017. The average amount of books I read is around 100, but again, it differs every year as life happens and we don’t know beforehand what the year will bring us. The highest number of books I’ve read is 209 in 2021. But we all remember what kind of time that was right? Yes, the pandemic was in full swing and we had 2 lockdowns that year. So, this is an exception. I think I typically read between 50-150 books a year, but that’s on average and a bit of a wide range. I just can’t predict the amount I will read.

I have the feeling many of this week’s prompts are a repetition of the February 7 topic when we discussed reading challenges. Yes, I track them, because I want to see my end of year stats. However, I don’t work with a checklist because that one is stressing me out a lot. When I start something, I want to commit to it and this gives me stress towards the final quarter of the year. I’m a mood reader at heart and have the freedom to choose what books I want to read motivates me more than a checklist. I keep track on platforms as Goodreads and The Storygraph, but I enjoy the latter one more. My reading goal for 2025 is set to 50 books and I’m ahead by 5 books at the moment.

  1. Oh, the pandemic. I sometimes just block that out of my mind. haha. I had a 9 month old, or I would have done some major damage to my tbr!!

  2. That’s a great goal and it’s awesome that you’ve already achieved it! Hope you continue to have a great reading year. Thanks for participating in LTB this week!

  3. Wow! 209 book is a lot – I think the highest I got probably during the pandemic also was 170 and I was burnt out.
