Top Ten Tuesday: Backlist Books I Hope To Read In 2025

Hi and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday post! The year is well on its way already, but we haven’t looked at the old titles yet. This week’s original topic is 2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To (will you be prioritizing these this year?), but I can’t remember much of last year’s releases, let alone which ones I was excited for. So I gave this topic a little spin and transformed it into Backlist books I hope to read in 2025. Focussing on the backlog is one of my bookish goals for the year, so this topic is very suitable. Let’s hope I’ll do better on this than previous years!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

  1. The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi – This book made it onto several TBR posts already and I’m planning on reading it as soon as possible.
  2. Tokyo Dreaming by Emiko Jean – This book will definitely be read this year as it’s high on my “Up Next” queue on The Storygraph. In fact, this will be my next read by the looks of it.
  3. Wildfire by Hannah Grace – I only bought this book last year, but I hope to read it later in 2025 as I really hope I will enjoy it more than Icebreaker.
  4. The Pearl that Broke its Shell by Nadia Hashimi – One I took with me from last year, but I finally have a copy so I’m sure I’ll be reading this one eventually.
  5. Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender – A book I’ve been wanting to read since 2020 and it’s about time.
  6. The Woman in Me by Britney Spears – This book was so hyped upon its release and I also got myself the audiobook back then. But guess what? I haven’t read it yet.
  7. The Last Rose of Shanghai by Weina Dai Randel – A book I accidentally found and sounded really interesting. I bought it, but never read it.
  8. For Fallon by Soraya Naomi – I have never read mafia romance before, but I have the first two books of the “Chicago Syndicate” series on my digital shelf for years now. I hope I will enjoy this type of romance!
  9. The Survivors by Alex Schulman – And this is a book that sounded very intriguing, but that I haven’t read once again. I don’t know why honestly.
  10. Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu – This is on my “Up Next” queue on The Storygraph as well, but I think I have to remove it for now as I’ve already read way too many dragons books the past few weeks. I will be reading it in 2025 though.

Have you read any of these books? What backlist books are you planning on reading in 2025?

Great idea! I did something similar since I don’t read recent releases that much. I haven’t read any of the books on your list either but Tokyo Dreaming sounds interesting 🙂 I hope you’ll be able to read these this year!

  3. I still need to read Felix Ever After, too.

  4. Nice list today! I hope you’re able to get to them all soon.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  5. I have a Nina Simone memoir I was given for my birthday last March. I really hope to get to it this month! 😄

  6. I did read The Woman in Me and found it so sad. She went through so much and the men she trusted betrayed that trust so badly. I hope you get a chance to read or listen to all of these and enjoy them, Laurie.

  7. I enjoyed The Woman in Me, but it also made me angry at the way Britney was treated by her family!

  8. Wildfire was a great read, hope you enjoy!

  9. They sound good. I had trouble finding books to go on my list as I try not to buy too many. I have such a backlog 🙄

Fingers crossed you get to read these soon!

    Have a great week!

  10. Felix Ever After is one I enjoyed!! I hope you get to these this year!

  11. Focusing on backlist books is a great goal! I’ve read two of your books — loved the Tokyo books by Emiko Jean! And I thought the Britney Spears book was very good (I listened to the audiobook – great narration). Enjoy!

  12. I read Britney’s memoir and….yeah, I was never a huge fan of her, I am about the same age though so grew up with her music and I just felt so sad for her. The way she was treated was truly awful and I hope she finds some semblance of freedom and happiness now.

I love Akwaeke Emezi even though I’ve only actually read one of their releases…..I really do need to read more.

  13. Tokyo Dreaming caught my attention from your list!

  14. The Woman in Me was super popular, even amongst readers that do not typically read memoirs, so I was curious. I am also intrigued by Tokyo Dreaming and Wildfire, though I haven’t even read Icebreaker.
I hope you can get to these soon!

  15. Britney Spears’s memoir has got to be an interesting read. I hope you get a chance to read all these soon.

  16. Several of these titles are books I keep telling myself I will read and yet haven’t yet. Felix Ever After, The Pearl that Broke Its Shell (I’ve loved all Nadia Hashimi’s books that I’ve read), The Death of Vivek Oji, and Tokyo Dreaming among them. So many great sounding books. Thank you for reminding me of them! I hope you do get a chance to read these and enjoy them when you do!

  17. I am intrigued by Tokyo Dreaming. I will wait for your review before I decide if it is for me.

    1. It’s a sequel 🙂

  18. I’m not familiar with these… but I might look into Dragon Rider for my son. He’s been really into dragon books lately.

    1. I’m not sure about his age, but it’s definitely adult fantasy.

  19. I didn’t realize Britney Spears had a book. I hope you’re able to read these this year.

  20. Wildfire is one I downloaded but never got to either. I hope we both love it!

  21. Some good choices! I need to catch up on Taran Matharu. I hope you enjoy reading some of these. 🙂

  22. The Last Rose of Shanghai was fantastic! And The Pearl That Broke Its Shell sounds so good, I had to add it to my TBR. I hope you enjoy all of these backlist reads when you squish them in.

  23. Great idea to highlight backlist books! I also have too many backlist books I need to read so picking out a handful to get started is helpful. 🙂

  24. […] TBR will be up later, but since today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a freebie, I’d like to revisit the backlist titles I want to read in 2025. Have I been reading the backlist books I have set as a goal for myself, or do I have to do a major […]
