Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2025

Welcome back to another Top Ten Tuesday post! We’re well two weeks into the year and I had enough time to think about my Bookish Goals for 2025. In fact, I already new of some, but I waited with posting them until now. What do I hope to achieve this year? Let’s take a look!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

  • Read 50 books – This is the same as in 2024 and I’m certain I will meet this goal again. I’d like to set the bar low for myself in terms of the number of books, I don’t want to be pressured too much. I just set a goal for the end of year stats anyway.
  • Finish my “Throne of Glass” reread – I started this in 2024 but abandoned it after the 5th book in the series. I hope to meet this goal in the first half of the year.
  • Focus more on my backlog – I think this is very relatable to most of us, but the shiny new releases are staring at us, as well as the backlog. So, before we all know it, several books are left on the shelf unread for years. This is an ongoing goal.
  • Cleaning out the TBR – Following the previous goal, focussing on my backlog means cleaning out the TBR as well. What books do I want to give a try, and which ones aren’t I interested in anymore? I definitely should sort this mess out.
  • DNF more – Another ongoing goal which speaks volumes.
  • Choosing quality over quantity – Another ongoing goal.
  • Diversify my reading – I thought I was doing well in reading more diverse, but it eventually turns out I’m not. So, I have to do better in 2025.
  • Cross posting my reviews – I still keep forgetting to do so.
  • Trying to write my reviews as soon as I can – I think I did well already in 2024, but I have to keep this one going.
  • Make up my mind about my Dutch blog for once and for all – In line of the previous goal, I really should make up my mind about my Dutch blog. I’ve been struggling with it for a while now and I thought an upgrade would help. Well, it’s actually close to dead as social media is more popular with the Dutch speaking crowd it seems. Why haven’t I given up on it yet? Because I’m afraid I will regret it. But maintaining two blogs is a lot of work and I’m falling behind on that one. Motivation is lacking more and more, so it’s time to make a decision.

What are your bookish goals for 2025?

  1. Good luck cleaning out your TBR. I made a stab at it this past weekend and didn’t get far. But I will keep on trying to get my number of books on my list under 100. I’m currently at 270.

    My goals and challenges: https://headfullofbooks.blogspot.com/p/2025-reading-goals-and-challenges.html

    1. Good luck with your goals. I definitely relate to the backlog one and needing to clear out my TBR although I’ve kind of put the second of those on hold for now. Instead I’m focusing on a high priority TBR for a while as I should (in theory anyway) remember the reads I’m most interested in. Then I’ll have less to sort through and it hopefully won’t seem so daunting 😂

I hope you figure out what you want to do about your Dutch blog. It sounds like a lot of work to keep two going but I get the potential for regret after deleting it so I definitely get where you’re coming from. I hope you manage to make a decision that you’re happy with.

  2. Ahh good luck on the Throne of Glass reread – I couldn’t get past book 5 in my first read XD Loved books 1 and 2 but started losing interest and couldn’t finish the series.
Tackling the backlog is definitely an issue…so is DNFing more! Good luck with your goals!!

  3. I can identify with a lot of these. As for maintaining two blogs, that must take a lot of effort so I don’t blame you for questioning whether you want to continue. The movement towards short reviews on social media, especially Instagram and TikTok, is being felt everywhere.

  4. Let us know what you decide to do about your Dutch blog! I am seeing more people on Mastodon starting blogs again. Not sure about other social networks, though.

    1. Mastodon is not really popular here LOL

  5. Having two blogs is tiring, I tried in English and Spanish, plus Instagram, and it’s too much, I hope you find a balance and don’t regret your decision.

  6. I’m hoping to continue my Throne of Glass re-read this year too (though I only read The Assassin’s Blade last year so I’m not far in yet). And I should definitely also learn to DNF more. Good luck with all your goals!

  7. I like the idea of setting manageable reading goals. I’ve set my Goodreads goal at 52 because reading a book a week is doable. Of course, I’ll probably hit it before summer is over.

  8. These are all fantastic goals! I really want to read more of my own books too. I’m trying to stay off Netgalley as much as I can. lol. Idk how long that will last. Wishing you the best in reaching all of these.

    1. LOL my account has been deactivated due to inactivity. And honestly, I don’t care.

  10. Love your goals! I could really clean out my TBR too and I definitely want to really focus on quality as much as I can this year. I also really try to write reviews as soon as I’ve finished the book, it’s so much better that way.

  11. I’ve been working on diversifying my reading as well. 🙂 Great goals, and good luck!

  12. Good luck with these goals, Laurie. I have some of them on my list today as well. I have a hard enough time keeping one blog going and blog hopping, I can’t imagine having two blogs and cross posting reviews. I hope you decide based on what is best for you.

  13. Good luck on your goals!

I definitely need to clean out my Goodreads tbr… Good luck with your goals!

  15. Writing reviews more quickly is a goal I’ve seen on TONS of blogs this week. It’s so easy to get behind, isn’t it? I’m great at reviewing what I read quickly on Goodreads, but on the blog? Not so much. Good luck with your goals!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  16. I’ve been wanting to do a ToG reread but haven’t had the time! I’m thinking about listening to them on audio while still knocking out my physical TBR. Good luck with these!

    1. Yeah I reread them in audio as well 🙂 Only read them in Dutch before so felt the urge to read them in English now.

  17. I had two blogs for a while; I decided to streamline and just have one and I don’t regret it! But having them in different languages would make it a more complicated decision. Hope you can find a good solution.

  18. Great goals! I have two blogs as well and I work more on my book blog now than the other. I agree, decisions need to be made, but it’s hard to think of giving it up.

    1. I pay for both, they’re both on the WordPress business plan and mainly because of the book review plugin I use, which comes with review indexes.

  19. Honestly, DNF’ing more has seriously improved my enjoyment of reading, and stopped me going into so many slumps. I still hate doing it, especially if it’s an ARC, but I’m so much better at it now. I also really need to clean out my TBR, there are books on there I added way before I started blogging and my reading has changed so much. I hope you have a great 2025.

  20. Focusing on the backlog and TBR are great goals, and I can definitely relate! Good luck!

  21. The backlog definitely gets pushed aside for new releases! I need to focus on this as well. I wish you the best with your goals!

  22. These are great goals! I also want to focus on quality over quantity and to get more of my backlist books read. I love your idea of cleaning our your TBR to make reading more backlist books easier. 🙂

  23. I always find it easier to write reviews after I first finish a book. I easily forget details especially when I become really immersed in another book. I hope you are able to achieve all these goals!

  24. It feels like all of us are always working on our backlog – hopefully we’ll get to make progress on goals this year!

  25. I’ve never managed to keep two blogs going at once — one is hard enough! So kudos on keeping the other going for as long as you have; it’s not easy.

  26. Great list! I, too, need to focus on cleaning out my TBR. It’s become overwhelmingly full. Good luck with all of your goals this year.

  27. Good luck with your reading goals! I can’t always write reviews right away, but sooner is better than later or they may not get done. So I can relate to your goal to write your reviews as soon as you can! I hope you have a great reading year!

  28. […] stated in this post where I outline my bookish goals for the year, focusing on my backlog is one of the key goals for […]

  29. These are great goals. It seems that many of us can relate to getting reviews done in a timely manner. I know that people are saying blogs are dead but I know of one blogger who’s popular on YouTube and Insta and she says her blog is still the biggest revenue generator. Blogging may not be to make money for you but the point is that people are still reading them. We just may not see it in the form of comments or likes.

    1. I don’t see this as monetization, that’s absolutely not what I want from it. But maintaining 2 blogs is actually pretty tiring and time consuming, and therefore I have to make some tough choices probably. My stats for my Dutch Blog are pathetic compared to this one. If I get 1,000 views in a year, it’s much on there. In comparison, this blog got approximately 30,000 views in the entirety of 2024.

  30. Great goals, Laurie! I’m definitely DNF’ing more books now than I ever have before. It used to kill my soul to do that, but the older I get the more I realize life is just too short for bad books. You know? LOL. Happy Tuesday!
