The End of Year Book Tag | 2024

As 2024 is running on its last legs, it’s time to start drawing the balance sheet of this past year. We just have about 1.5 weeks left, in which we of course can finish some books. But let’s face it, it’s holiday season so probably not going to happen. I’ve seen the “End of Year Book Tag” going around already for the past few weeks, but now I finally take the time to do this myself. I haven’t done this in the past, so I have no comparison material. This tag has originally been created by Ariel Bissett, a booktuber. However, I copied the questions from Dini’s blog DiniPandaReads.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Not per se. I never leave books too long to read, if I don’t like them I just DNF. I’m currently reading two books: The Songbird & the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent and Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. I expect to finish these before the year is over, although I’m really struggling with the first one and that’s quite unexpected.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

No, I struggle a lot with seasonal reading. However, I was reading Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig, which breathes autumnal vibes. I think this counts as I only finished it recently, on December 16 to be exact. Technically still autumn, but the days are already dark and gloomy.

Is there a new release that you’re still waiting for?

Not awaiting, because it’s December 21 and we won’t get any new books for the remainder of the year I guess. However, I still have a pretty recent release on my TBR that I hope to tackle before 2025 rolls around: Tale of the Heart Queen by Nisha J. Tuli. If I manage to read this book, I finished an entire series this year so let’s go for it.

What are three books you want to read before the year ends?

I think I answered this question already as I have two current reads and one book I really hope to read. However, I might DNF one of my current reads, so I hope to squeeze Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett in at some point. Otherwise I have to take this with me into 2025.

Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your favourite of the year?

No, because I already have a favourite. However, I’m still searching for my favourite book of December.

Have you already started to make reading plans for 2025?

Not really. I think I’ll just set my goal to 50 again, I hit this number easily in 2024. I also hope to read most books of my Winter TBR, but since I highly anticipate most of them, I think this would be no problem at all. Furthermore, I would like to read more diversely. I thought I have been doing well already this year, but actually not when looking more deeply into my reading stats. I also hope to tackle more of the backlist and prioritize them over all these shiny, pretty new books, but that’s a work in progress.

I’m not tagging anybody specifically, because I honestly don’t know who to tag. So, consider yourself tagged when you stumble upon this post!

What are your reading plans for the remainder of 2024?
