The TBR Book Tag

It’s Thursday and that’s a great day for doing a book tag isn’t it? I’ve done a lot of book reviews lately, so something else for a change wouldn’t hurt. I haven’t done a book tag in ages, but I saved some for later. However, I recently got tagged by Dani @ _ForBooksSake in the TBR Book Tag which sounds really awesome. So, I thought I should gave it ago! I followed Dani’s example and added the plain questions at the end of this post, as well as the people I tag.

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

Goodreads is my life saver! Yes, the website and app have their flaws, they are both very outdated. Yes, the platform is owned by Amazon, but I love the inspiration it still gives me just by scrolling through my feed. I also use The Storygraph, but I barely get inspiration from there. The Goodreads reviews are really helpful. More about this in my post of early this year where I compare both platforms. Anyway, my Goodreads TBR is most accurate, although this doesn’t mean I own said books. The other way around is also possible, I own the books but haven’t added them to my Goodreads TBR.

Is your TBR mostly print or e-books?

E-books and audiobooks. I can’t read print books as they are inaccessible to me, so I actually have no choice. However, I always select the print edition on Goodreads because this is easier when including the book info to my book reviews. On The Storygraph, it’s easier to select the right format so I try my best to make it more accurate on there. I mostly fail though.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

By setting myself seasonal TBRs through my Top Ten Tuesday posts, but mostly by being a mood reader. I just can’t set myself monthly TBRs, I just want to read whatever, whenever I feel like it. When I set a strict TBR, I feel a lot of pressure in reading, to the point it becomes a chore. Not what you want from a hobby eh?

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest

A Beautiful Mess by Claire Christian, this book has been added to my Goodreads TBR on February 3, 2018. I think I bought the book itself sometime later that year or in 2019. I’m not sure whether it still resonates with me though as this is pure YA and I hardly read that these days.

A book that you recently added to your TBR

Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao, but I don’t have the book yet. When looking to the books I actually own, it must be The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde. It’s also on my fall TBR, so let’s see whether I will pick that one up these upcoming months.

A book on your TBR you strictly bought because of the beautiful cover

None, due to my visual impairment covers don’t say that much for me. I’m more interested in the blurb of the book as this tells me so much more. By the blurb alone, I can mostly judge whether a book will be for me or not. It’s such a shame that they nowadays are overflooded with marketing slogans and quotes from Bookstaggrammers or Booktokers. I’m not interested in those. I want to know what the book is about and nothing else.

A book on your TBR you never actually plan on reading

I’m afraid there are a few books I own but will never read as they have been on my TBR for the longest time and my reading preferences have significantly changed over the years. When looking into my current Goodreads TBR, I’m afraid Charlie and I by Mark Lowery and Running With Lions by Julian Winters are two of the books that will suffer from this change in reading preferences, probably together with A Beautiful Mess by Claire Christian I mentioned before. I try to clean out my TBR every once in a while though, but books I already own probably won’t be removed.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for

There are a few books that are next up in series I’m excited for, but I think I’m most excited for Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros. I know many people have lots of opinions on this series but I really enjoy it so yeah.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you

Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood, The Graham Effect by Elle Kennedy, Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver (but I’ll read it soon as it’s a book club pick), Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig (the final book in a duology). See, I’m a very mainstream reader so I read many of the hyped books.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends

I have no specific one. As stated at the previous question, I’m a very, very mainstream reader so I added a lot of hyped books to my TBR. So many books are recommended by the entire Bookstagram crowd.

A book on your TBR that you’re just dying to read

Fate of the Sun King by Nisha J. Tuli. I actually planned to read this already in summer, but I found out the final book in this series will be out in November so I wanted to read it closer to publication. These cliffhangers are absolute trash (in a positive way), so I don’t want to leave too long before picking up the conclusion to the series. It’s on my fall TBR.

The number of books on your Goodreads shelf

277, but this could change any minute.
