August seems to have come and gone in the blink of an eye. This montly wrap up is a bit later than I’m used to, but I was away on the other side of the country and didn’t bring my laptop. I came home yesterday, so therefore no wrap up on the first of September! I’ve read a lot in August and the books were also very pleasant as you can see. Without further ado, let’s take a look into my monthly overview!
My monthly stats
According to my monthly stats on The Storygraph, I read a total of 13 books. I actually started 14, but sadly had to DNF 1. My number of pages read in August is 3,609 pages and I’ve listened to 76.93 hours of audiobooks. This is mainly the curtacy of one particular series, I’ll come back to this later. From these 14 books, I’ve hauled 1 this month. I’ve hauled 8 books in total, but I didn’t feel like reading them now since I was too invested in a series. Most books I’ve read fall under the romantasy genre this time, which I definitely didn’t expect beforehand. I again mixed both Dutch and English, but read a fair number of audiobooks this time. My average rating for the month of August is 3.92 stars. In the image below, you see my monthly data at once. It won’t have an image description as most has been written here already.

My read books
Links will direct you to the accompanying reviews on my blog. Due to my getaway week, not all books have been reviewed yet, these will be added in the upcoming days.
- Lady of Darkness by Melissa K. Roehrich – I only heard about this book series this month through a Discord server I’m in, and decided to give it a try. The rest is history. Audiobook, 5 stars
- Niet zonder liefde by Wendy Brokers – An original Dutch romance from a series I read years ago, but I wasn’t aware of this fourth and final book. So I read it and enjoyed it. Ebook, 3.5 stars
- The French Cookery School by Caroline James – I wanted an easy read which would fit summer perfectly and this sounded suitable for the job. Yes, it was an easy read and it indeed fit summer perfectly, but I wasn’t really enjoying it. Audiobook, 3 stars
- Lady of Shadows by Melissa K. Roehrich – I just wanted to get back to Scarlett and Sorin, so it was time for the second book in the “Lady of Darkness” series. Audiobook, 5 stars
- Dromen jagen by Anna Thomas – It was hot and I needed a quick read, so this was just a nice palate cleanser. Nothing more or less. It’s Dutch, so no review for this book on this blog. Ebook, 3 stars
- Savour It by Tarah DeWitt – I’ve seen this author being mentioned on other blogs a lot, so it was time for me to give these books a chance. Well, this was not for me. It was thirteen-in-a-dozen on literally everything, I was bored out of my mind. Ebook, 2 stars
- Lady of Ashes by Melissa K. Roehrich – I just wanted to continue this series. Audiobook, 5 stars
- Lady of Embers by Melissa K. Roehrich – And again, I needed to continue after that cliffhanger. Audiobook, 5 stars
- Lady of Starfire by Melissa K. Roehrich – I just wanted to finish this series before my holiday. Audiobook, 5 stars
- Weyward by Emilia Hart – I was curious for this book, but this didn’t do the trick for me. Nature is playing a key role and that just doesn’t speak to me. I thought this book would be something different, but I was wrong. I read the Dutch version though. Audiobook, DNF
- Frambozenzomer by Lucas Versteeg – Whereas I hardly read YA these days, this book positively surprised me. I finished it in one day and really enjoyed it. The author discusses lots of current themes such as body positivity and the role of social media and influencers in today’s youth. It’s Dutch, I’m sorry. Ebook, 4 stars
- It All Comes Back to You by Melissa Wiesner – Another book I really enjoyed, but somehow expected to be something different than I just got. Ebook, 3.5 stars
- One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid – This book has seen multiple TBRs in the past, but I finally picked it up. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as other books by this author. In fact, I was pretty bored. Moreover, one of the main characters really annoyed me. Audiobook, 3 stars
- Peach Blossom Spring by Melissa Fu – And yet another book that has been sitting on my TBR for years. Fortunately I enjoyed this family saga about Chinese history. Review will be up shortly. Ebook, 4 stars

This was August, a fairly good reading month like they used to be years ago. What will September bring me? Spoiler alert, I finished 1 book and absolutely hated it LOL. This month is always tough for me because of the transition from summer into fall, which takes a toll on my energy levels. I hope this won’t be the case this year. A slump is always peeking around these upcoming months, but I already surpassed my reading goal.
How was August for you?
