This week marks 5 years since the start of Let’s Talk Bookish. In celebration of this, I’ll be diving into the rich archives of this meme from Monday to Friday and choose several old topics to either discuss for the first time or revisit. Today I go back to June 12, 2020 where we discussed bloghopping. This topic is suggested by Mari @ Tirilu. The blog/platform doesn’t exist anymore. It was in the middle of the pandemic, I think right after the first lockdown. However, I haven’t done this topic myself.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.
Prompts: Do you think it’s possible to have real conversations and make friends while bloghopping? What’s your goal when you bloghop? Is there anything people do while bloghopping that bothers you?
Do you think it’s possible to have real conversations and make friends while bloghopping?
I find this hard to say, because everyone bloghops at their own speed. I personally slack in bloghopping, but I always make time for it on Top Ten Tuesday’s. If I already know I won’t have the time to go bloghopping, I just don’t take part in the meme. However, I see some people commenting to my posts way later and while I definitely appreciate it, I totally forgot what the post was about and I then have to read back. Or forget to reply, whoops. However, if I see something interesting on another blog, I definitely leave a reply. Are you able to have real conversations? Sure! At least, if you have the time to write long comments and don’t forget to go back. I think however that with social media we forget about that and that our attention span is much shorter. I definitely struggle to write long comments on blog posts, I always stick to social media style. Why? I’m used to it. I don’t have problems writing long texts in blogs, but comments feel different somehow.
What’s your goal when you bloghop?
My goal when I bloghop is to find new posts or reviews on books I either have read or plan to read. I’m sorry for my fellow bookbloggers, but I only read those reviews since my time is limited. I’m more drawn to lists and memes though, because they are quick reads. I bloghop mainly on the commute to work so I just have a few minutes to do so if I want to squeeze reading in as well. From September onwards my commute changes from 30 minutes to 10 minutes on the tram so I wonder how this will develop considering reading and bloghopping time. I like whatever I want to and reply whenever I want to. I don’t have many goals actually when it comes to bloghopping.
Is there anything people do while bloghopping that bothers you?
No. Do you want to like my post? Perfect. Do you want to comment as well? Really nice! I think people should bloghop the way they want to and what works best for them. Besides writing actual blogposts, bloghopping is a job itsself sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad at all!
Do you bloghop? What are your goals when doing so? Does anything bother you when others bloghop?
