Top Ten Tuesday: Introductions to Authors I Enjoyed

I haven’t been active on Top Ten Tuesday for the past two weeks because I simply couldn’t come up with lists for these topics. Today’s topic is a tough one for me as well, because I’m not sure if a book I enjoyed is a debut novel or not. It could be that said author was self-published before their books got picked up by traditional publishers. So, I changed Debut Novels I enjoyed into Introductions to Authors I Enjoyed.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

  1. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead – This author wrote multiple books already before I finally came across this first book in a six-books series. I didn’t know it was a spin-off to the Vampire Academy series, I found out whilst reading. I devoured said series after reading Bloodlines and The Golden Lily first. I tried reading The Glittering Court after, but that definitely was not for me.
  2. The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen – This is the 9th book in the Rizzoli & Isles series, whoops! But, it was my introduction to this author so it counts. I then started to read the other books in the series though. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Listen to Me, the latest book in this series.
  3. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – I know this book and author are highly controversial now, but I read this book in 2018 before Booktok existed and hyped this book up. Now I think it’s overhyped, but back in the day I enjoyed it. Admittedly I read another book by Colleen Hoover first, but I hated that with a passion. So I don’t see that as my introduction to this author.
  4. A Courrt of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – I read this series first and the rest is history.
  5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – I read this book three times now, enough said?
  6. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – I was very late to the party, because I read my first Shadowhunters book back in 2019. And again, the rest is history. I’m up-to-date with the main series now, I don’t really care for the spin-offs and bonus books to be honest.
  7. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Another series I started very late, I believe it was also 2018 or 2019. I enjoyed the entire Grisha series, but I never enjoyed another series by this author. No, not even Six of Crows.
  8. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I first heard about the Lux series when it got published in Dutch back in 2018 and it was already quite old at that time. However, I devoured all books once they got published, so who cares LOL.
  9. Paper Princess by Erin Watt – One of my guilty pleasures is the Royals series by this author duo which is also my introduction to Elle Kennedy in a way. I always said I would never start this series and I have to admit I nearly gave up after reading a few chapters of the first book. Well, I got sucked in eventually and couldn’t stop.
  10. Cinder by Marissa Meyer – How could I not mention one off my favorite series The Lunar Chronicles? I started in 2017 when the books got republished in Dutch. They were translated, but only the first two. Now the series was completed.

Which introductions to authors did you enjoy most?

  1. I forget about Bloodlines! I loved book 1 and then never finished the series (think I got to about book 4), definitely need to go back and eventually finish that

  2. Wow I’m so impressed that you’ve read Evelyn Hardcastle 3 times! I loved it when I read it, but once was enough for me as it made my head hurt so much. 😂

    1. I think you mistook Evelyn Hugo for Evelyn Hardcastle since I didn’t even make it past the 10% mark in the book 😀

I’ve heard of most of these! With Shadowhunters, I wish someone had told Cassie Clare that incest wasn’t a cool theme to roll with for six+ books but it is what it is 😂. Love your list, thanks for dropping by mine!

  4. Cinder was so good.

  5. I love The Seven Husbands! It’s on my list of books I want to reread.

  6. I hear SO much about Colleen’s books but based on what I’ve read about them, I just don’t think they’d be my cup of tea. Still… maybe someday I’ll break down and give one a chance. Seems like It Ends with Us would be (for me) the best one since that one is getting movie treatment this summer. Thanks a bunch for visiting my website today!

    1. I enjoyed Maybe Someday better, so I recommend you to try that one first 😀

  7. You listed a few of my favorites!! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is one of my favorite books of all-time, and I was obsessed when I first read the ACOTAR series (Book 2 is my favorite). I’ve only read Cinder and Scarlet, but I enjoyed them so I need to continue the series!!

    1. ACOMAF is my favorite too!

As for The Lunar Chronicles, there’s a huge development both plot and characterwise in both Cress and Winter 🙂

  8. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was my introduction to Taylor Jenkins Reid too and I adored it!

  9. Obsidian sounds interesting.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  10. I love Cassandra Clare. I have only read The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments series so I am behind!

I still need to read a Taylor Jenkins Reid book. I have Carrie Soto Is Back in my TBR shelves!

    Have a great week!

  11. Reading a book three times definitely sounds like a reccommendation!

  12. First, thank you for letting me know that my blog has problems for reading like yourself. I’m going to fix that.

Second, I love seeing City of Bones and Cinder on your list. They’re two of my favorite books and series. I still haven’t read anything by Colleen Hoover, but I’m looking forward to hopefully soon.

Great list! 😀 Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  13. I had the same challenge in putting my list together! A couple of authors on my original list had published a nonfiction work…so does that disqualify them?! #bookproblems are the best problems! Great list!

  14. Great list! I loved It Ends With Us and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Happy Tuesday!

  15. One of these days, I’ll give The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo a try.

  16. I love Six of Crows but I did not like the Shadow and Bone series (nor did I like The Familiar) by Leigh Bardugo! I’m wondering if she’s for me.

Whatever happened to Richelle Mead? She was SO prolific there for a while but it feels like she literally just dropped off the planet.

    1. I know right!

  17. I like this twist on the topic! I had to spend more time than I’d like to admit researching which books were the debut! 🤦‍♀️ My introduction to Taylor Jenkins Reid was Daisy Jones and the Six, but I did enjoy it and I’ve heard great things about Evelyn Hugo, so I’m glad to see that you enjoyed it!

  18. Love this list! I love a bunch of these authors.

  19. Joanne Avatar

Great selections. I adored The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I’m really excited it’s being adapted for Netflix!

  20. Wow, there are quite a few posts today where I have never read a single book. Like yours. Just too many on my TBR pile right now to really go and add more. LOL

  21. Great list! I need to read Paper Princess still.

  22. I have very fond memories of Cinder. Takes me back to the very beginning of my blogging journey. It was one of the first series I fell in love with and bonded with other bloggers over.

  23. I haven’t heard of a bunch of these, and I actually like the City of Bones series the least out of all of Clare’s series. Maybe I just like the historical aspects.

  24. Oh my gosh I loved The Vampire Academy books and I had no idea there was a spin-off series about Sydney! That’s so fun! I’ve recently started a re-read of the Shadowhunters series which I grew up on but have not read the newest entries so I want to start from the beginning and eventually catch up 🙂

  25. I’ve been tempted to reread the Lux series to see if it holds up for me. Great list!
