Top Ten Tuesday: Series I Desperately Need to Finish

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week is a freebie and I’m sure we can probably all relate to the following problem. Once upon a time you start a series, really enjoyed the first book and desperately want to move on with the second book but it isn’t out yet or you just need a break because you just can’t read series back to back. Well, that break is taking forever and ever, because other books demand your attention. So, that series you’ve once started is still unfinished. I can definitely relate to this and I therefore have a huge list of series I once started, but never finished. Just to name a few…

  • Legend by Marie Lu – I’ve finally read Legend back in 2020 and I enjoyed the first book. It was an easy read in terms of terms of writing style, but not in terms of the topic. A pandemic is one of the main themes and since we were still in Covid lockdown, that might be the reason why I never picked up the other books after.
  • Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – I enjoyed the first book, but I wasn’t fully convinced. However, my enjoyment was big enough to be curious for the continuation of this story. I should pick this up someday.
  • Monsters of Verity by Victoria Schwab – I read This Savage Song years ago and I enjoyed it, but mainly the final 30% of the book. However, I never picked up Our Dark Duet. Maybe I will, one day.
  • Contender by Taran Matharu – I finished the first book in one day, but never picked up the rest. I will, definitely.
  • DIMILY by Estelle Maskame – I’ve read Did I Mention I Love You? years ago and surprisingly enough I had a good time with it. Only for the sequels to be left untouched.
  • Villains by V.E. Schwab – This is a series I’, not sure whethr I actually want to finish or not. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Vicious, but so many people absolutely adore this duet. So, I wonder whether I should give Vengeful a chance or not. It has been way back since I’ve read the first book though, so that might be a tricky one.
  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – I’m cheating a little here, because I actually picked up the third and final book twice, but just couldn’t get through it. I didn’t understand it at all. Maybe I have to reread everything before picking this up again and finally finish it. I had a great time with the other books though!
  • The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau – I liked the first book, but it has bene years now since I’ve read it and I don’t know why I never picked up the rest. It was a 3-star read though.
  • The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang – I just need to read the final book.
  • Cassidy Blake by Victoria Schwab – This seems like a pattern somehow, but I picked up City of Ghosts and really enjoyed it. However, i never hauled the rest.
  • Blood of Eden by Julie Kagawa – I honestly have no excuse for why I only read the first book and never looked back. Oops.

Have you read any of these series? What are series you’ve once started and desperately need to finish?

  1. I hope you enjoy them all as you finish them.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

  2. I’m awful at finishing series but even more awful at reading them in the right order!

  3. I rarely read series these days. I get too distracted by Blog Tours ๐Ÿ˜‚ these look good though. I hope you get to finish them.

    Have a great week!

  4. I am so bad at finishing series (my current TBR is full of them) – I find that the longer between entry releases, the less engaged I am. I think it would really help if series came with a “previously” at the front as standard so I can remember what happened.

    1. I think thatโ€™s everyoneโ€™s wish, but still it doesnโ€™t happen. Or at least, most of the time it doesnโ€™t.

  5. Oh no, your topic is giving me anxiety! I’ve got way too many series I desperately need to finish too. Good luck to you on finishing all of these!

  6. Fab list! I loved the Cassidy Blake series, one for around Halloween!

  9. I have soooooo many of these! I even started making a yearly challenge to try and chip away at the list. Of your list, I’ve read Legend and really enjoyed it, as well as Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I actually just finished two more Laini Taylor books recently – I just love her writing style.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  10. Hope enjoy them!

  11. Ooh great list! The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy has been on my TBR for ages. I loved the Kiss Quotient series for sure, but I’ll tell you the third one was the hardest for me emotionally. It’s still a great romance, and I’m glad I read it, but I wasn’t prepared for the emotional trauma!

  12. I haven’t read any of these (although I’ve been meaning to read Vicious), but I know I have series that I’ve either abandoned or just haven’t gotten around to continuing (or finishing). Good luck!

  13. I can definitely relate! I’m always reading a ton of series, but never actually finishing them. Usually, it’s because I wait to long between books and then I can’t remember who’s who or what’s what and I don’t want to go back and re-read books in order to remember. LOL. Good luck with all these!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  14. I have this problem too, I’m really bad at finishing series unless I adore the first book. Good luck!

  15. I read the Snow Like Ashes trilogy but it wasn’t a favorite. I did adore the Villains duet and Daughter of Smoke and Bone series! In The Kiss Quotient series, I also still need to read the third book. Hope you’ll enjoy all of these as you finish them!

  16. I have so many unread series on my TBR! Hope you get to finish all of these soon.

  17. I always do this too – and then I have to reread the whole series when the next book comes out, and when it’s a long series or has really long books, it makes it really difficult to keep up. If only authors put a “what’s happened so far” at the start of each new book, it would make life so much easier.

Hopefully you’ll get to finish all these series, and enjoy them all.

  18. Great list. I have so many series I need to finish too. I’m terrible about that and keep starting new ones.
