Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.
It has been over a month since I last participated in this meme and that’s for several reasons. Either I was too tired, or the topics didn’t speak to me. However, today’s topic is rather interesting although I tweaked it a bit. Instead of talking about rereading childhood favorites, I’ll be talking about rereading favorite books no matter what. This topic is suggested by Jillian @ The bookish Butterfly.
Prompts: What were some of your favorite books when you were younger? What books got you into reading? Do you ever go back and reread those books? What do you remember loving most about your childhood favorite books?
I haven’t been a huge rereader before, but slowly I’m making my way into this habit. I mean, there are several books I’ve only read in my native language that I definitely have been wanting to reread in English. For example: The Lunar Chronicles, Vampire Academy, A Court of Thorns and Roses and now I’m on my rereading project for Throne of Glass. I don’t regret it one bit. I think rereading can be so comforting (especially in a reading slump), at least if you choose the right books. I wouldn’t go back and reread very old books from my childhood since they often don’t fit into this period of time anymore and make me cringe.
I remember I really enjoyed several books which aren’t available as audiobook and therefore I can’t reread them. They are really old and some even are out of print. Moreorver, I think I won’t even like to reread them as it feels like wasting my time since they are so juvenile compared to my current reading tastes. Of course they are for a different audience and I think my TBR is too long to go back to something that doesn’t fit me anymore. However, Harry Potter is still very much alive and kicking, but we all know what “she who must not be named” is saying these days. Her image is at the toilet. I just don’t want to reread them anymore. I started to listen to the audiobooks narrated by Stephen Fry and I made it to the start of book 5 before I quit and never looked back. Such a shame, because I definitely like Fry’s narration. His performance is outstanding. If the author wasn’t such a mess, I would have enjoyed them more. I can’t deny I was sucked back into the stories nevertheless.
That’s it for this week. Do you reread favvorite books from either your childhood or recent years?
