Top Ten Tuesday: 2024 Bookish Goals

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is 2024 bookish goals. I’ve already talked about these in this post, but why not again? I have to held myself accountable anyway. So, without further ado, let’s take a look in what I would like to accomplish this year!

  • Read 50 books – The past years, I’ve set my reading goal to 100 books and I was able to reach this goal with ease. However, I felt a lot of pressure in 2023 to reach it, so I decided to lower mine to 50 in 2024. Reading shouldn’t become a chore after all.
  • Chosing quality over quantity – When looking back on 2023, I have to conclude that this was such a mediocre reading year. I’m not sure why, but it just has been that way. unfortunately I’ve seen many people stating the same. Several books I didn’t enjoy but kept reading in order to try and meet my reading goal. This resulted in a huge slump in the fall of last year. I would love to avoid it and try to choose quality over quantity.
  • DNF more – In order to accomplish my previous goal, I would like to DNF more. Funny however that last year’s goal was to DNF less.
  • Cross posting my reviews – I’m really bad at this, I only use star ratings on platforms such as Goodreads and The Storygraph. I always find my reviews too long for such platforms as I don’t like to read epistols on there myself, but I could cross post them anyway. Or in any case, partially. Truth is, I’m a lazy ass and mainly use these apps on my phone and I hate reviewing on my phone. Furthermore, why writing a second review when I have my blog? I’m still not that sure about this goal anyway.
  • Trying to write my reviews as soon as I can – I’m getting better at this, but sometimes I leave too much time in between reading and reviewing a book, to the point I don’t know what to write about it anymore.
  • Having back-up content – I should try and work more in advance so I actually have back-up content for when I have no review ready. I hope I have the energy for this, but probably not.
  • Cleaning out the TBR – Sometimes you find a goal on the go and this is one of such. I have books on the TBR since literally 2017 or 2018 and I either have to read or remove them. Since I only read digitally, I can’t unhaul or donate them. So I have to accept my money has gone to waste then.
  • Buying less books – I am a random buyer. Although ebooks are cheaper than physical purchases, I still buy too many and also end up not liking too many. So I really should curate it. I think this goes hand-in-hand with number 2 and 3.
  • Finally except that hypes are mostly not for me – I have to admit that I am highly influential when it comes to books. I try my best to keep up with the newest releases, and that means the latest hypes. However, most hypes come from Booktok, and they end up being literally terrible. So I have to accept That they’re not for me. I have to choose my own path more I guess.

So, these are some bookish goals for the year. What are yours?

  1. Very smart goals 🙂 I hope you read many things that you love

  2. These are all great goals! Good luck with them.

  3. All the best with your 2024 goals! I try to always review any film I see even if it’s an old title. It’s something that’s handy when I don’t have other content to post. Like you, I also want to read more books I can enjoy (which is why I work hard to know what I like) vs books I’m not enjoying, and yes, DNF-ing books more is something I should work on too. 🙂

  5. Choosing quality over quantity is an excellent goal.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  6. Having backup content is a great goal.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  7. Oft! – “Chosing quality over quantity” – I really feel you there! And the one about DNFing more, that’s on my list too. I want to maximise the amount of books I love this year.

  8. These are great goals! DNF more is a great one and I wish you luck!!

  9. Writing reviews as soon as I can – I’m with you on that one. I have about five to write at the moment.

  10. All great goals and yes I like to keep the number to read low enough so no pressure.

  11. Great list, Laurie. DNF more will help with some of those goals. You’re right–reading shouldn’t be a chore. Good luck!

  12. These are great goals, good luck with all of them! I’m with you the cross-posting reviews, I always want to do that more, but I’m also not sure it’s really necessary either…

  13. Great goals. We have a few in common. Learning to set down books we aren’t enjoying is so important, and that’s something I struggled with for years. We have a few goals in common. Good luck with these.

  14. Writing reviews sooner is something I should do. I only just caught up on writing reviews, and I’m always falling behind

  15. I agree with so many of these goals! I have been terrible with putting too much pressure on myself so keeping the number low and sticking to quality over quantity are two of my top 10 for this year.

  16. I relate so much to many of your goals, especially the quality over quantity one. It’s probably one of the reasons I have a hard time DNF’ing as well, because I feel like I need to finish the books to add to the reading goal. I also get influenced really easily and fall for the hype a lot, but I dislike a lot of Booktok books too! Good luck on all your goals this year!

  17. Totally agree that reading should never be a chore! Quality over quantity is good too, sometimes I fall into the trap of just picking up ANYTHING so that I can say that I read haha. Have to do that less.

  18. One way you might be able cross-post your reviews is to write the longer review on your blog. Then pick a few highlights and post those on Goodreads and/or Story Graph. Then you could add the link for your blog post to those reviews. Hope this helps!

  19. Love that you lowered your goal so it wouldn’t become a chore. 🙂 I also struggle to write reviews in a timely manner, so I feel you there. xD Best of luck with your goals this year!

  20. I completely agree with the DNFing. I try to not worry about doing it if I don’t like a book. There’s too many books and too little time.

  21. Backup content is so important, especially when you are feeling overwhelmed in other areas of your life. I hope you are able to accomplish these goals.

  22. I feel you on the cross-posting. I’ve been terrible at writing longer reviews on my blog lately, but I’ve been great at posting short ones on Goodreads. Since I write up my thoughts on GR for every book I read, it’s super helpful when I write a longer review on my blog. My memory’s terrible. LOL. Good luck with all your goals!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  23. Quality over quantity is a great goal! I have to remind myself sometimes to slow down and take more time with great books, instead of rushing through to the next one. Good luck!

  24. This is a great list. I’m defo aiming for quality over quantity – I’m not as quick to request books any more with that in mind. I think I have a better idea of what I want to read and what will work for me which is good too.
And writing my reviews up quickly after reading – I’ve become bad with this and it’s a pain. I used to write my review practically as soon as I completed a book – where did it go so wrong!

  25. These are great goals, Laurie! Good luck reaching them all in 2024!
