2023 In Review | Part 4

It’s December and we all know what this means right? Yes indeed, time to make all kinds of lists. You see them everywhere, so I can’t stay behind right? In the upcoming weeks, I will be wrapping up 2023. I will divide this into four posts, one for each quarter. So, let’s take a look into my year!

October

This was the worst reading month for me this year. All books were slow and I didn’t enjoy any of them except for one. I was very tired this month. I thought it was because of the transition from summer into fall, but I happened to get Covid. I was back up and running quite quickly, but it definitelyy took a toll on my reading. I also expected my blogging got influenced by it, but apparently not. I still managed to publish 20 blogposts.

I managed to read the sad amount of 6 books. It’s many to others, but when you know my reading habits, you see that it’s low for me. Out of these books I had just 1 solid 4-star read and that’s also my favorite for the month. It’s a Dutch historical fiction, Edwards keuze by Marijke Vos. The other books I’ve read vary from 2 to 3.5 stars. I had no surprises really, I was just really disappointed by this month. It took me very long to finish books and that just sucks. If I really have to choose my most disappointing reading experience, I think I have to go with Thieves’ Gambit by Kayvion Lewis.

November

I was fully recovered by the time November came around. However, this didn’t show in my reading and blogging. I still managed to publish 15 blogposts though, but I was just generally slumping.

In November, I’ve read 7 books and 2 of them were 5-star reads. These were Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros and The Serpent and the wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent. These were also my favorite books of the month, but Ever After Always by Chloe Liese really surprised me. I was highly disappointed by Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson and A Fire in the Flesh by Jennifer L. Armentrout, but I’m happy I at least had some great reading experiences again. Let’s just pretend I didn’t have to DNF 2 books.

December

The final month of the year and it isn’t over yet. I’m trying to finish several things before the year is over, amongst which are finishing at least one other book and publishing this blogpost. I just have a little over 6.5 hours to go. At the end of this month, I did some maintenance work on this blog, because I was already considering an upgrade. I missed several plugins, but found it too much of a hastle to get self-hosted because I already own a domain. Moving servers/hosts meant that I should have gone on an unplanned hiatus, because moving a domain takes up to 5-7 days and you’re not able to make any changes (in my case publish blogposts) in the meantime. Anyway, I finally have review indexes! Besides, I also managed to publish the most blogposts of the year in December, I ended up publishing 25 posts, this one included. And I didn’t even do Blogmas!

In terms of reading, December was much kinder to me than October and November were. I loved nearly every book I’ve read. However, so far my favorite of the month is my reread of Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong. However, one of my current reads, Flawless by Elsie Silver, is a good one too. Unfortunately, out of the 7 books I’ve picked up, I had to DNF Powerless by Lauren Roberts, but that didn’t come as a surprise to me when looking back at it. I also caved and read one of the most hyped books of 2023, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross. It was definitely not a bad book, but I’m not 100% convinced either.

Well, that’s it folks! 2023 Is nearly over and 2024 is upon us. What will this year bring me? Besides these quartely wrap up posts, there will be other 2023 reflections coming to the blog very soon, starting with my December wrap up. Because that needs to be done still.

How was your autumn when it comes to books?
