Let’s Talk Bookish: The Makings Of A Great Audiobook

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.

This week it’s the last Let’s Talk Bookish post of 2023. I could of course wrap up my year, but I’m already doing this in certain other posts. So, I decided to do a little deepdive again and choose an old topic. This week, I choose a topic from April 1, 2022. It’s suggested by Mikaela @ Mikaela Reads and it’s purpose is to discuss audiobooks and what makes a great audiobook.

Prompts: Do you listen to audiobooks? If so, what makes a good audiobook? Is it the narrators or does it depend on the genre? What are some of your recommendations for amazing audiobooks? If you don’t listen to audiobooks, why not, and do you ever plan on doing so?

I definitely listen to audiobooks. Sometime you just don’t have the possibility to read a physical book or an ebook. This often occurs when I’m travelling or doing chores. So, an audiobook helps in these situations. However, it really depends if I enjoy them or not. Sometimes, the narrators sound monotone which bores me or drifts me to sleep. So yes, it definitely depends on the narration whether I like an audiobook or not. Often, it also depends on genres. I tend to use audiobooks most for fantasy novels because I find it easier to understand the world when I hear it instead of reading it using voiceover.

When looking into recommendations, I’m te worst LOL. I like anything narrated by Rebecca Soler or Fiona Hardingham. However, there are audiobooks I don’t like the narration for and these are for instance The Priory of the Orange Tree, Empire of the Vampire and The Way of Kings.

So, this is my take on this old topic. I just can’t say more, I’m sorry. Do you listen to audiobooks? And what makes a great audiobook for you?
