2023 In Review | Part 3

It’s December and we all know what this means right? Yes indeed, time to make all kinds of lists. You see them everywhere, so I can’t stay behind right? In the upcoming weeks, I will be wrapping up 2023. I will divide this into four posts, one for each quarter. So, let’s take a look into my year!

July

It’s time to get into the second half of the year and the first month I’ll be wrapping up is July. I’m officially behind on my reading goal of 100 books, but I don’t think it’s time to lower it just yet. I’ve started this month with a week’s break from work which I ended with food poisoning LOL. However, I found time to blog quite a lot during this month, which results in 18 posts published.

This month I read 11 books, with 1 reread and 1 DNF. I’ve reread The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout as the Dutch edition got published. On the other hand, I didn’t like The book Eaters by Sunyi Dean at all and therefore had to DNF it. Both Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare and Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score surprised me, whereas Cursed Crowns by Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber left me a bit disappointed. I expected more, but it has much more of a YA vibe than the first book in this series.

August

Well, August has come and gone in a breeze. We moved offices at work and therefore we were required to work remote – which I hate – for an entire week. Unfortunately for me, I got tech issues that took weeks to resolve. I ended this month with summer break (yes, I divided mine into 3 weeks). I ended up publishing 19 blogposts this month.

This month was one of the worst so far in terms of reading. I remember rating no books 5 stars, but I broke my record of 2 star ratings this month. Unfortunately, i also had to DNF 2 books: Pageboy by Elliot Page and I Fell in Love with Hope by Lancadi. Both books didn’t work for me for different reasons. The books I had to rate 2 stars are: Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover, The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus and Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor. All had different reasons why I rated them this low, but I was very disappointed by The Housemaid since that book was such a hype. Thankfully, I also read Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare which easily made it to my favorite books of the month. Actually the only book I’ve really, really enjoyed this month.

September

I started this month with the final week of my summer leave and I went to Cologne to finally see Delta Goodrem in concert. Unfortunately, it took till the end of the month before my tech issues were resolved and I was able to work properly again. This was right before my birthday. In September, I published the most blogposts ever: 24!

September has bene a mediocre reading month for me as well. I again had to DNF 2 books: In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune and Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong. In both cases, the story didn’t work for me. No 5 stars again this month. My biggest disappointment of the month was Girl, Goddess, Queen by Bea Fitzgerald, closely followed by Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Unfortunately, I ddin’t have a favorite book this month.

As you can see, it’s all going downhill this second half of the year. However, my worst reading month still has to come, I will come back to that in my next post.

Have you read any of the books mentioned?
