2023 In Review | Part 2

It’s December and we all know what this means right? Yes indeed, time to make all kinds of lists. You see them everywhere, so I can’t stay behind right? In the upcoming weeks, I will be wrapping up 2023. I will divide this into four posts, one for each quarter. So, let’s take a look into my year!

April

This was the first month of spring. Oh well, not that we had much spring… I was supposed to go to Cologne to see Delta Goodrem in concert, but since the entire tour had to be postponed and rescheduled, that didn’t go ahead. However, I still took that week of work because I desperately needed it. I don’t know how I managed it, but this month, I published 21 blog posts.

In April I’ve read a total of 6 books, but none of them got the full 5 stars. On the other hand, I didn’t DNF a book either. My April books were mostly mediocre a tbest, with Fresh Blood by Nicole Arend as my biggest surprise of the month. A Thousand Heartbeats by Kiera Cass was my biggest disappointment however. I again did a good job on my bookhaul if I might say myself, from the 9 books I’ve hauled in April, I’ve read 5 of them throughout 2023.

May

To be quite honest, I cna’t remember what happened in May. I thinnk this month was not that eventful either. I spent less time blogging, which results in 15 published blogposts over the month.

This month, I’ve read 11 books. I have put none on the DNF pile, but I think it would have been best whenever I’d done that with The Stolen Heir by Holly Black. That book was a nightmare to get through. However, I rated both The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty and Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros 5 stars. This wasn’t my biggest surprise of the month however, that ended up to be Twisted Love by Ana Huang. I expected this book to become a DNF, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! In May, I’ve bought 8 books of which I’ve read 3 in 2023. I’ve picked up 2 others as well, but those happened to be a DNF later on.

June

Lastly, it’s time for June. This was the first month of summer and we already got a good glimpse of it! It was already 30 degrees for more days in a row. After the cold sprng we’ve got, this was something really different. Warmer weather makes me want to blog less and this is visible in my blogging stats. I’ve published 11 blogpost during this month.

Usually I read more when the weather is getting nicer, but this doesn’t seem to be the case in June. I’ve read 7 books and the only 5 star book was a reread of Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz whereas an author whose books I rated 5 stars before, has the dubious honor of delivering me my least favorite book of the month. I felt very, very let down by Atalanta by Jennifer Saint. Anyway, I didn’t DNF a book this month, which is good right? I again did a good job on my bookhaul, because of the 9 additions in June I’ve read 8 during the year.

As you can see, my second quarter of 2023 was a little disappointing in terms of the books I’ve read. I mean, I’ve read a lot, but didn’t fully enjoy many of them. The dreaded reading slump is coming near, we will see this soon. Have you read any of these books yet or are several still on your TBR?
