2023 In Review | Part 1

It’s December and we all know what this means right? Yes indeed, time to make all kinds of lists. You see them everywhere, so I can’t stay behind right? In the upcoming weeks, I will be wrapping up 2023. I will divide this into four posts, one for each quarter. So, let’s take a look into my year!

January

This first month of the year started quite good. I was on fire with my reading, but also with blogging. I took a little holiday, but brought my laptop so was able to write down several blog posts. As a result, I was able to publish 19 blogposts this month.

I managed to read a total of 7 books and I had no DNF’s this month. My favorite book of the month was probably Solveighs Belofte by Corina Bomann, an originally German historical fiction which is the third book in a series. I was most disappointed by It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover. This month, I have rated no books 5 stars. I also did a really good job on January’s bookhaul, because from the 7 books I hauled, I’ve read 7 in 2023. So far, so good!

February

The shortest month of the year, but so much has happened. I was quite sick for most of the month. I came down with a cold, but caught another virus in the end. No, not Covid, not yet. However, I went to two concerts and I also managed to keep the blog flow going. In February, I again published 19 blogposts.

I again read 7 books, but they weren’t all as good as I’d hoped for. My favorite book of the month was again an originally German book, Maxton Hall College by Mona Kasten. Many German books find their way to the Netherlands and that often works out really well. Unfortunately, I had one huge disappointment this month. This was Tithe by Holly Black and I think I better would have marked this one as DNF. Again, no 5 stars this month. However, I hauled just 1 book and haven’t read it yet.

March

The final month of this post is March. This month was quite uneventful unfortunately. However, Daisy Jones & The Six got released and I really enjoyed this series. In fact, the companion album is still one I’m not getting bored off. I blogged a little less this month, I published a total of 18 blogposts.

In March, I’ve read a total of 9 books. Out of them is one DNF, Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. On the contrary, I have rated 4 books 5 stars, although 2 of them were rereads. These were Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston, These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver and The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty. I’ve hauled 14 books this month of which I’ve read 11.

The first quarter of 2023 went really well in terms of reading. I can’t remember whether I was on track to reach my goal of 100 books, but maybe I was already falling behind. However, I’ve read significantly less throughout the year, but if I remember correctly not this next quarter.

Do you still remember your first quarter of the year?

  1. It is fun to look back over the year and I guess just appreciate our reading the books we loved… or didn’t!
