Prompts: Do you like guessing whats going to happen in the books you read? Can a book be too predictable? Do you like to always be surprised, or can it be comforting to know what’s coming?
Prompts: Do you like guessing whats going to happen in the books you read? Can a book be too predictable? Do you like to always be surprised, or can it be comforting to know what’s coming?
It really depends actually. In thrillers I don’t, I want to be surprised. Nowadays I think the books within this genre are too predictable for me, hence why I enjoy them less and less. However, I sometims like to guess what will happen in books, but I wih I was surprised mor eoften.
Can a book be too predictable?
Absolutely! Especially when it uses many clichés. Therefore it’s easy to guess what’s going to happen and therefore it just feels like ticking all the boxes. Again, this is often the case with many books nowadays. I think that’s why I’m slumping so badly.
Do you like to always be surprised, or can it be comforting to know what’s coming?
As I stated before, I like to be surprised. It’s more challenging. Unfortunately, many authors use formulas which have been proven successful, so less and less surprises out there. On the other hand, it can be comforting to know what will happen, but only when there is a lot of character development. Otherwise the book falls flat to me and I don’t like that anymore.
What do you think about this topic? Can books be too predictable? Do you find it comforting to read something predictable or would you like to be surprised?
