Top Ten Tuesday: Mainstream Popular Authors that I Still Have Not Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is suggested by Rissa @ Prentious Reader and we talk about mainstream popular authors we still haven’t read. When thinking about it, there are a lot of them for me.

  1. Nora Roberts – This author publishes a lot of books, in both the fantasy and romance genre. They just don’t speak to me at all, so I probably will never pick up one of these books.
  2. Robert Galbrait – This is actually J.K. Rowling. Do I need to say more?
  3. Robyn Carr – This is the author of the Virgin River books and probably some more series. They are all very long and seem really shallow to me. I’ve tried the first 1.5 episodes of the Netflix series and was bored out of my mind so I have the feeling that the same will apply to the books.
  4. Robin Hobb – This is one of the most popular fantasy authors out there, but the books are just not speaking to me. There’s a lot and they sound like quite slow reads. My attention span is shit nowadays, so not for me.
  5. Diana Gabaldon – Actually the same.
  6. Lisa Jewell – I am not the thriller type anymore, so it barely happens I pick one up nowadays.
  7. Julie Murphy – I still own Dumplin’ I believe, but it’s just not speaking to me anymore.
  8. Jenny Han – This author is a little too YA for me. I’ve seen the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie and to be honest I was cringing the whole time.
  9. Lynn Painter – This author is really popular except for my country. Also, I’m not sure whether their books are for me.
  10. Holly Bourne – Yet another popular author, but not in my country. Correct me if I’m wrong, but their books are more of a comfort read with little to no depth and I doubt I can handle that.

Have you read any of these authors?

I haven’t read any of these authors either!

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  2. I don’t know any of them. Didn’t even know about J. K. Rowling’s pseudonym

  3. I used to love Nora Roberts’s and Robyn Carr’s book. Lynn Painter is a new favorite of mine. I haven’t read one of hers I haven’t loved.

  4. Fab list, I haven’t read some of these either!

  5. I’ve read Jenny Han’s ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ series and I hated it. I’ve also read one Holly Bourne book and that one was okay.

  6. We have several in common like Nora Roberts, Robin Hobb, Robyn Carr, i feel they are not my style

  7. Out of these, I’ve read Robert Galbraith, Lisa Jewell, Robin Hobb, and Diana Gabaldon. Lisa Jewell is one of my absolute favorite thriller authors, but she does have some hits and misses for me.

  8. I have read and enjoyed most of these authors. The only one that I tried and am not sure about trying again is Robin Hobb.

  9. I’ve read all of these except two. I actually liked the Robert Galbraith series but I’ve made a decision not to continue with it.

  10. I’m with you on Roberts. I’ve read a couple of hers and they just didn’t work well for me. Romance is not my thing, but I have actually enjoyed a number of Carr’s books. I like the warmth of them and the cozy little towns she creates. I’ve never watched the Virgin River series and probably won’t ever. TV isn’t my thing either.

    Happy TTT!

  11. I actually read the first 3 books in the Galbraith series, and that was more than enough. I do love Diana Gabaldon! 🙂

  12. I’ve got Diana Gabaldon on my list, as well. I have read Nora Roberts — her Cousins O’Dwyer series is my favorite at this point.

  13. Great list! I actually hadn’t heard of a few of these, but definitely agree on the Robert Galbraith front.

  14. I HIGHLY recommend Robin Hobb, when your attention span is in the mood for her books. They are long and slow, but oh so goood!

    1. I never were able to del with long and slow books haha

I’ve read one by Diana Gabaldon (the first Outlander) and wasn’t impressed. I believe there are no authors we absolutely “have to” read, so if a book doesn*t talk to me, I don’t care how popular it is.

  16. Holly Bourne was on my list this week too. I enjoy the Outlander TV series but the books are just too long for me, so I’ve accepted that TV is the way I’m going to enjoy the story! I did try one of Robin Hobb’s books but I found it hard to gel with the writing style.

  17. I’ve read one Robin Hobb and wasn’t wow’ed, but I plan to try at least one other since she’s so popular.

  18. I read one Gabaldon book and it was just okay to me. I read as a buddy read. It was so long, I don’t think I would have gotten through it otherwise.

  19. I’ve read a few on your list – but, I’ve not read them extensively. Nora Roberts I have read but only one book that I can’t recall now. Robin Hobb, I did start her Assassin Apprentice series but only read the first – not because I didn’t enjoy it, I think I just had too many other books at the time. And Gabaldon, I read about five of the Outlander but at that point they started to become too familiar.
