October is over, thankfully. Let’s quickly forget this month. It started off pretty good though, with a book event, celebrating my birthday and seeing the The Eras Tour Movie. Only to end with testing positive for Covid for the first time ever. It was not that rough, but I still have the aftermath at the moment. I mean, my nose is still blocked. October was also the month of the dreaded reading slump. I managed to read several books, but I ended up only enjoying one for real. Without further ado, let’s dive deeper into my month.
The books I’ve read
- Hoe overleef ik alles wat ik niemand vertel? by Francine Oomen – An originally Dutch book. It’s the newest addition to a series I really enjoyed in my youth. I was already reading another book, but this was a quick read and I managed to finish it in one day. I enjoyed it, but I still have some points of critique here. ***,5
- Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco – This book got its Dutch translation. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it that much, same as my English reading experience. It’s not convincing enough to pick up the series finale. *** [review]
- Things We Hide from the Light by Lucy Score – A book I had high expectations for, but they were nott really met. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my time reading this book, but when the main characters lack chemistry, it’s destructive for a romance. *** [review]
- Thieves’ Gambit by Kayvion Lewis – A book that is great for its target audience, but I absolutely disliked it. ** [review]
- The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty – I enjoyed this book, but I think pirates are not really my thing. ***,5
- Edward’s keuze by Marijke Vos – This is another originally Dutch book and the only one I actually enjoyed this month. it’s a historical fiction with a dual timeline narrative and it shows that men also were unhappy about arranged marriages in the early 21st century. Plus, it’s also an interesting family saga. ****
