Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Today it’s Halloween, a fest that’s being celebrated more often slowly but steadily here in the Netherlands. Years ago, it was only mainly celebrated in some parts of the country, but it’s finding its way to the bigger (sub)urban regions in the past few years. However, it’s often not celebrated on the day itself because of it being a school night. So, here the kids had a lantern parade and did trick or treat this past Saturday. I wasn’t home, so I don’t know how it went. Anyway, with spooky season come spooky creatures! This week, Top Ten Tuesday consists of books with witches, ghosts, vampires and so on.
- Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas – This is a book I always recommend when people ask for spooky season recs because of the period fo time this story is taking place in. It also contains ghosts of the death, so is perfect for this season. Moreover, it’s a great read.
- Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff – This book is about vampires, do I need to say more?
- Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling – Halloween is always celebrated at Hogwarts and always something goes terribly wrong with consequences for the rest of the story. Also, the creatures in the Forbidden Forest are spooky enough, aren’t they?
- City of Ghosts by V.E. Schwab – Actually the entire Cassidy Blake series because Cassie is able to see ghosts.
- Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice – Can you believe I haven’t read this vampire classic yet?
- The Dark Elements by Jennifer L. Armentrout – This series is about all kinds of demons.
- Lobizona by Romina Garber – This book is about werewolves. After a tough start, I had a really good time reading it.
- Her majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson – The most popular book with witches at the moment and I haven’t read it. I’m not sure whether it will be for me anyway.
- The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig – This vampire book has been on my TBR for ages and I have to admit I totally forgot about it.
- These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling – Another book with witches as main characters. I actually read this one and I felt it was okay but not spectacular. I never finished the duology though.
Have you read any of these books?
