September has come and gone. This month started of with mu annual leave and a boiling hot week. When I got back to work it finally started cooling down. My IT issues at work were ongoing, but fortunately solved later on in the month. I ended September with my birthday on Friday and of course I’ve read several books. I’m not sure what it is lately, but again the books I’ve read this month were not particularly good.
Read this month
- Slammed by Colleen Hoover – This was this author’s debut novel and it got translated to Dutch after more than 10 years. It was an enjoyable read, but not as emotionally investing as her later books are. However, her potential to become the writer she is today was already visible back then. *** [review]
- In The Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune – I wish I could say that I liked this book, but I can’t. It was cringy at best, the dialogues were so annoying and the humor wasn’t funny at all. DNF @ 22%
- Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune – After my not so pleasant reading experience with the previous book by this author, I decided for a second chance. And I immediately went for the English version. This turnt out to be a clever choice, because I enjoyed this book way more. The high temperatures might have added up to this though, but still. ***,5 [review]
- The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi – Although this book was not entirely what I’d expected, I’ve had a nice time reading. I was seeking an easy read and that this book proved to be. *** [review]
- Girl, Goddess, Queen by Bea Fitzgerald – And this book is exactly what I meant in the first paragraph of this post. This was one of my most anticipated releases but it was incredibly underwhelming. I was on the verge of DNF’ing this one. **,5 [review]
- Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong – This book I actually DNF’ed because I was so bored. Maybe it was the book itself, the rnarration or the timing, I don’t know. But I just felt like wasting my time. DNF @ 29%
- The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin – A book I found through several Top Ten Tuesday posts and one I thoroughly enjoyed. ***,5 [review]
- Icebreaker by Hannah Grace – This is not the book, but me. I can’t deny the storyline and that it was somewhat intriguing, but I felt too old for the main characters and the setting of the story, college. *** [review]
- Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout – This is a book I still need to process, because I honestly don’t know what to think yet. I mean, it’s super slow and there’s not happening much plotwise up until about 75% into this book. It reminded me a lot of From Blood and Ash regarding characters, setting and developments, but i still enjoyed it. Especially when the story moves forward finally. However, i don’t think it’s typically an adult book, it’s not heavier or spicier than a new adult book. ***,5
- Solitaire by Alice Oseman – This book was comfortably sitting on my Kindle for years now, so it was time to pick it up. It reads fast, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of Tori, I struggles with her character. Moreover, I was not really invested in the story. ***
