Top Ten Tuesday: Did I Read My Summer 2023 TBR?

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is one I couldn’t work with for now because it’s way too hot to think properly. In the past, I reminised on my Spring TBR and whether I’ve read them all. With autumn officially starting next week, I thought it’s time to reflect on my summer 2023 TBR. Did I read all the books I wanted to read? Spoiler alert, I did quite well! Probably because I had several anticipated releases on there too. The links lead to my reviews if they are up.

  • A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair – This book came out in Dutch in July and I read it quite soon after publication. In fact, it was one of my first books in August. I felt a little letdown by it though, maybe my expectations were too high. [review]
  • Hotel magnifique by Emily J. Taylor – I’ve read this one pretty recently and actually I was on the verge of putting it on the DNF pile. I was so, so disappointed. [review]
  • Cursed Crowns by Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber – Yikes, another anticipated book that left me disappointed. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was so different. It felt like I was readinging a totally different series and it was way more YA than its predecessor. [review]
  • Girl, Goddes, Queen by Bea Fitzgerald – This is my current read. I had to wait a little bit before picking this up as I also read A Touch of Darkness this summer and these are both Hades and Persephone retellings.
  • Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score – Oh I enjoyed this one so much! I actually didn’t expect it. [review]
  • The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty – No and that’s also impossible. I pre-ordered the Dutch version and this one comes out literally today. Maybe this shouldn’t have been on my summer TBR in the end.
  • The Court of Shadows by Victor Dixen – I’ve already read this in June and you American readers are up for a ride! [review]
  • Lavinia by Ursula K Le Guin – I haven’t read this either, I actually forgot it has been on this TBR! Also, I’m not sure how I would have handled 3 Greek mythology retellings in one season though, so I will move this one to a later date.
  • Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender – I haven’t read this either, whoops. It’s been on my TBR for 3 years now! I think I will move this to September, although I’m not dealing well with YA books anymore lately.
  • Slammed by Colleen Hoover – I finished this book pretty recently and I was quite underwhelmed. I realize this is the author’s debut novel, but I still felt underwhelmed. [review]

I think I did pretty well this summer. I have read 6 out of 10 books, with a 7th on the way. One will be read shortly, because it hasn’t been published yet. The others, I have to move to a later date, each for their own reason.

How did you do on your reading this summer? Have you finished your TBR? Or have you met other reading goals?

  1. I think it helps me to keep track of my seasonal TBR list. I usually am spurred on to read the books I put on the list and I refer to it several times during the quarter. You did a great job.

I haven’t looked at my summer TBR since posting it. I tend to pad mine with ARCs I must read in that quarter. That way, I know I’ve read, or at least attempted to read, at least 5/10.

  3. I’m currently reading Girl, Goddes, Queen too!

    1. What do you think so far?

      1. I’m enjoying it. The writing is very ‘readable’. I’m interested to see what (if anything) the author changes/adds to the basic story. You?

  4. You did a good job for sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  5. Congratulations you did really well!

  6. Well done on your summer reading. Funnily enough, I’ve just added Colleen Hoover to a list for a future TTT!

  7. Good for you making great progress on your seasonal TBR! That’s always fun to look back on… especially if you made some solid progress. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you have some great reads on your autumn TBR, too. And thanks so much for visiting my website today.

  8. I’d say reading more than half is a win! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. You did do well! Congratulations!

  10. You did do good with your summer goals. I still have a few books from my summer TBR that will now go on my autumn TBR…but I did alright overall. Have a great week. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. 6/10 is a great summer reading score! Especially when it’s been too hot to think (our thankfully brief English heatwave was a hellscape). Well done!

  12. You probably read more than I did from my Winter TBR! I have Things We Never Got Over here to read and honestly, I tried to read Amina Al-Sirafi but I just could not get into it so I soft DNF’d it. I’ll pick it up another time.

    1. I mistook the release date for another book from the same publisher, it won’t get out till the 26th apparently ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I kept thinking it got published the 12th for like 4 months ๐Ÿ™ˆ

  13. Nice! You did very well. I haven’t heard of most of these books, so no comments there ๐Ÿ™‚

    Happy TTT!

  14. Good twist on the topic, that’s the best you can do if the one of the week doesn’t work for you.

Thanks for visiting my TTT this week.

  15. Nice, the best part was you enjoyed the books

  16. Looks like you did a great job with your summer reading TBR!

  17. It’s always such a letdown when your most anticipated turn out to be disappointments. Good job with your summer goal!

  18. Great job on your summer tbr! I always take a look back when I make my fall tbr, too. And I was underwhelmed with Slammed, as well. Hoover is often a hit or miss for me. Happy reading this week!
