It’s Thursday and what better day to do a book tag on! I’ve seen the Romance Reader book Tag on a few blogs lately, but I took it from Ali @ Ali’s Books. I like to read a good romance from time to time and since a while, I like a good smutty romance too. So let’s see what these questions will bring! This tag is originally created by Romance Queen of Booktube and The Bookish Knitter.
What age did you start reading romance novels?
Okay this is a tough one. Because I don’t really know. In my country, YA as a genre was quite late, I think it started with Twilight. Of course The Hunger Games was there, but that wasn’t classified as such. Also, I read that series in 2020 so that doesn’t count. Before discovering YA, I was reading a lot of adult fiction, also for required reading in school. These books contained a lot of sex, way too much for a 14-year old to bare. Well, I think i was 14 then when starting reading romance. But the actual romance wasn’t untill Twilight in late 2008/early 2009. I was already 17 then. I think Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix doesn’t count as a romance although there’s still romance in it? If so, then I was 13.
If you could pick one hero to meet from your favourite romance novels, who would it be and why?
I agree with Ali on this one. I don’t think I want to meet any of the characters because they could easily destroy the image I made up of them in my mind.
Who are your favourite romance authors and why?
I don’t like to read plain romance. I also want a plot to come with it, to be able to see the characters grow closer to eachother. I think Rebecca Yarros, Colleen Hoover and Jennifer L. Armentrout do well in this. Oh and Ana Huang too.
What is your favourite romance novel to re-read?
Either A Court of Mist and Fury or A Court of Silver Flames. Both Feyre and Nesta have gone through a lot and they both learn how to live with the trauma. The blooming romance is great to witness, as well as the role this romance plays in their healing process.
What book would you recommend to a non-romance reader?
I think I would recommend a book within the adult fiction range or where romance is not too dominant. I remember my experience with Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover way too well. It was my first book within the new adult age range and I was utterly and completely shocked. This book contains so much smut and I had zero preparation for this. I wasn’t aware, nobody told me. This experience made me hesitant to pick up another romance/new adult book for a long long time. Thankfully I did and discovered not all new adult/romance books are like this.
Which is your favorite: contemporary, suspense, or historical and why?
Either contemporary or historical. I don’t read suspense a lot because I’m not the biggest fan of this genre anymore. Besides, we forget the fantasy romances here. However, I like a romance with good chemistry and an interesting backstory.
