Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.
This week’s topic is a little controversial, because you love them with your whole heart or you hate them with a passion. What I’m talking about? Book adaptations.
Prompts: What makes a good film adaptation of a book? With book to film adaptations, do you prefer to see movies or shows? What about other kinds of adaptations, like musicals? What are your favorite adaptations? Your least favorites? What upcoming ones are you most excited for?
What makes a good film adaptation of a book?
for me, it’s really important that the adaptation follows the book as close as possible. I hate differences between film and book, especially because they make it hard for me to follow. And I’m legit annoyed when they change a lot in one of my favorite stories for example. I don’t care about casting or whatsoever, because due to my visual impairement, I’m not able to see the details.
With book to film adaptations, do you prefer to see movies or shows?
Honestly, I don’t really care. Both bore me equally way too quickly. Also, I don’t want to pay €15 to go to see a movie in a theatre with annoying people. I know better ways to spen dmy money LOL. However, If I have to choose, I think shows are a better way to bring the entire book to screen and not much has to be cut out.
What about other kinds of adaptations, like musicals?
No no no. I mean, I have nothing against htem, but I just can’t imagine musicals of books. I mean…. No. Maybe it’s more common for the real classics, but not for the currently popular books.
What are your favorite adaptations? Your least favorites? What upcoming ones are you most excited for?
To be honest, I like the adaptations that stayed close to the book. For example: The book Thief, The Hate U Give, Me Before You and Daisy Jones and the Six. My least favorite adaptations are – sorry to say – Heartstopper and Shadow and Bone. I didn’t make it through season 1 for both of them. I understand they are very popular and mean a lot to people, especially Heartstopper. However, I was just so bored when viewing them. I know I’m in the minority here though. And about upcoming ones? I have no idea since I don’t really care about the new movies or series.
What do you think of book adaptations? What do you prefer and what not? Do you have a favorite and least favorite adaptation?
