Top Ten Tuesday : Fantasy Books I Haven’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

So this week is a genre freebie and i’ve done a lot of TTT’s with several genres already. However, I find that I haven’t read that many fantasy books. And we all know that there are a lot of them. So, today I provide you with 10 of the books within the fantasy genre I haven’t read (yet).

  1. The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King – This book is on my TBR actually and I have an ebook of it. So, I will be reading it eventually.
  2. The Last Wish (The Witcher #1) by Andrzej Sapkowski – I’ve tried it twice and DNF’ed it as much. I just couldn’t get into this book. Maybe it’s the translation? I don’t know.
  3. The Way of Kings (The Way of Kings #1) by Brandon Sanderson – Another book I’ve tried, but I couldn’t get into on audio. I’m not too sure whether I can handle the ebook, I’m affraid I will be falling asleep a lot whilst reading as that happens a lot to me when reading this type of fantasy.
  4. Twelve Kings in Sharakhai (The Song of the Shattered Sands #1) by Bradley P. Beaulieuw – I wanted to read this in Dutch, but they stopped translating thsi series after the second or thrid book so no use. I got myself an English copy but haven’t picked it up yet.
  5. Empire of the Vampire (Empire of the Vampire #1) by Jay Kristoff – I wanted to like this book so badly, but I’ve tried and DNF’ed it multiple times. I did so on audio by the way and I don’t like the narrator.
  6. The Bone Shard Daughter (The Drowning Empire #1) by Andrea Stewart – I keep seeing this series a lot, but have my doubts whether it is for me.
  7. The name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss – I’m not even starting this because it seems like there won’t be any sequel?
  8. The Bone Season (The Bone Season #1) by Samantha Shannon – I had so many issues with Priory of the Orange Tree (couldn’t be bothered to finish it) and that’s mainly because of the complicated world. Well, since they stopped translating this series into my native language, I don’t think I will manage this one. Or is it easier than Priory?
  9. Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor – This one is on my TBR and will be picked up soon.
  10. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia #1) by C.S. Lewis – I know I know, a huge classic. However, it doesn’t spark my curiosity so I have never, and will never pick them up.

These are just 10 examples of fantasy books I haven’t read. Have you read any of these yet?

  1. I adore the Chronicles of Narnia. It’s not only part of the canon of great fantasy, but also considered a classic in literature itself. I still remember my first read when I was about 12. Every book hits everyone differently, but this series has always stayed with me.

  2. I haven’t read The Gunslinger yet either.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

    1. Your link is broken 🙂

  3. I’m not a huge fantasy reader and definitely not in adult fiction! (I’m more likely to pick something up in middle grade or YA. But, I think I actually read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when I was a kid.

  4. I’m intimidated by high fantasy and overall it’s not what I’m drawn to. But I do enjoy some romantasy now and then. 🙂

    1. Oh yeah so relatable!

  5. The Name of the Wind sounds good, although I don’t know if the sequel will ever come out.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  6. Hotel Magnifique sounds interesting! I’m hoping to pick that one up, too. From your list, I’ve only read the Chronicles of Narnia. (Though I DNFed The Name of the Wind.) I liked them, but I also read them as a child and I think that helped my enjoyment.

  7. I’ve actually read #8 and #10. I feel pretty accomplished since normally I can’t say I’ve read a fantasy off most people’s list.

  8. I read the entire Narnia series in the last year. I liked some of the books in the series more than others, but overall, I think it would have been better if I’d read them as a kid.

I thought about reading The Name of the Wind, but it’s just so long and daunting…

  9. Despite how popular Brandon Sanderson is, I’ve never had any interest in his stories.

My husband gave me a Narnia collection a few years ago for Christmas. I don’t think I even finished The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. He was a little sad, as they were some of his favorite stories from his childhood.

  11. I loved THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE when I read it as a kid, but I never moved on with the series for some reason. I should. I’ve never read THE WAY OF KINGS, but I do like Sanderson’s Mistborn series and I’m really not much for fantasy! His world-building is excellent, though.

    Happy TTT!

  12. Other than the Chronicles of Narnia (which I liked a lot as a kid except not so much the one about the horse) I’ve only read The Name of the Wind (which happened to be on my list today, too!) and I really loved it. The sequel to it does exist, but not the third and final book in the trilogy, which IS starting to seem like it’s never going to come out. 🙁
I’ve gone back and read a lot of early Stephen King (the first book I read by him was Lisey’s Story) but for some reason I have no interest in The Gunslinger, either!

  13. Great list! I have to say, The Gunslinger and The Bone Shard Daughter are both such great books!

  14. I really liked The Gunslinger, but a few of the other books in the series are awful. Stephen King makes weird choices with his books sometimes.

  15. Great list tbh, as someone who really loves fantasy books, this is surely on some of my read list as well, but have you tried some classic books like LOR and Hobbits, they are pretty good, and yep Brandon Sanderson books can be bit daunting. But i will still give a try:)
