Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Most Recent Books I Did Not Finish

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

It happens every now and then, you are reading a book and you just can’t finish it. This can be due to a variety of reasons. For me, it’s mainly because I can’t get through the book and I’m bored out of my mind. Here are the 10 most recent books I called the quits on.

  1. The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
  2. How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie
  3. Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
  4. Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
  5. The Witch King by H.E. Edgmon
  6. The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
  7. Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo
  8. The Bastard Factory by Chris Kraus
  9. The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton
  10. The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid

So, these are my most recent DNF’s over the past 2 years. Have you tried or finished any of these? And what books did you DNF most recently?

  1. Legends and Lattes has definitely been overhyped on social media – I did finish it and didn’t hate it… but it was definitely a m’eh read!
You also have several book on my shelves that I haven’t been excited about to start reading yet… But Girl, Woman, Other I did love – although I nearly DNFed Evaristo’s lates Mr Loverman.

    1. In that case, the writing style wasn’t for me. I had no overview or whatsoever.

      1. It did feel amateur… both in a good way, a book written with love and fun, which did give it a certain charm; but also definitely in the sense of uncrafted too

  2. I haven’t read any of these but I agree, sometimes I just can’t get into a book, even though others might have loved it.

  3. The Book Eaters didn’t work as well as I was hoping it would for me either.

  4. I think I only read the first chapter of The Wolf and the Woodsman.

  5. Legends & Lattes was a DNF for me as well.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  6. I’m curious about DNF of Legends and Lattes. I have only heard good stuff so far.

    1. It’s way too overhyped in my opinion and nothing reallyhappens. It’s really low stakes and I was bored because of it.

      1. Interesting!

  7. The thing I’m loving this week is seeing how different tastes are – I read and loved three of these (though I also DNF’d THE ATLAS SIX)

  8. I really enjoyed Legends & Lattes, but I wanted a low-stakes book at the time so that gave it a huge boost for me. If you wanted something with more action, I can certainly see where it wouldn’t provide.

Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!

  9. I liked THE DEVIL AND THE DARK WATER okay, but it was a chunkster that took some slogging through to finish. Pretty sure I considered DNF’ing it more than once!

    Happy TTT!

  10. I really enjoyed The Wolf and the Woodsman, but can also see how it wouldn’t be for everyone.

  11. I DNFd Daughter of the Moon Goddess and then ended up finishing it like six months later. It was pretty slow but I ended up liking it once I had the whole story — it just took a while to get there.

    1. I was bored and just had no patience for it.

  12. I have been wanting to read The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean.

Can you tell me why it is DNF for you?

    1. It just didn’t work for me 🙂

  13. Legends & Lattes was just an ok book for me, so I don’t blame you for DNFing it!

I also DNFed The Witch King at first, but then I went back later and enjoyed it!

  14. I DFN The Atlas Six , the audio edition

  15. I’ve read Legends & Latte, but I did love it. 🙂 I haven’t tried the others.

  16. That’s a shame about The Book Eaters, I’ve seen kind of mixed to negative things about that one so maybe it’s one I should take off my TBR….

  17. I feel the same about The Atlas Six!

  18. I’ve not heard of these books. I’m sorry that they didn’t work for you. It can be disappointing not finishing a book. But sometimes a book is just not the right fit!
