Let’s Talk Bookish: Blogging Slumps

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.

This week’s topic is suggested by yours truly and is all about what causes blogging slumps. Quite recently, we have discussed what causes reading slumps and that topic inspired me to suggest to discuss the blogging slumps. Because we bloggers do not only have to deal with reading slumps, but blogging slumps are a hindrance as well.

Prompts: Do you often find yourself in blogging slumps? What qualifies as a blogging slump for you? What causes them? Can you sense one coming, or do they hit you unexpectedly? What do you do to prevent blogging slumps? How do you get out of them?

Do you often find yourself in blogging slumps?

It really depends to be honest. You might have noticed that I haven’t blogged as much in the past week’s as I did earlier in the year. I feel myself slumping when summer is around the corner. Mostly it’s just to hot to blog or I’d rather read. Usually, my reading picks up speed witin these months, but I keep forgetting (or not wanting) to blog. I find myself slumping on reviews more than on other posts though. So, I think this is an anual returning thing and it can take longer to get out of these slumps. I notice them often starting in May or June and they can often extend till like October or even November.

What qualifies as a blogging slump for you?

That are a few things actually:

  • Having no inspiration;
  • Not being able to find the words to put on “paper”;
  • Not feeling like opening the laptop or WordPress.

What causes them? Can you sense one coming, or do they hit you unexpectedly?

In my case, there are several factors causing a blogging slump. As stated before, the late spring and summer seasons are notorious for my biggest blogging slumps ever. Also, when I’m in a reading slump, I tend to be in a blogging slump as well. Sometimes I want to blog, but haven’t read a lot. They ofthen go hand in hand though. As I stated whilst discussing reading slumps, my lack of energy during winter also plays a major role. Then I fall behind on reviews and we all know what that means and how hard it is to catch up. When taking all this into consideration, you can say that my blogging slumps are not hitting me unexpectedly most of the time. However, as for everything, a slump can still come as an unwelcome surprise.

What do you do to prevent blogging slumps? How do you get out of them?

It’s hard to say what to do to prevent blogging slumps. Every situation is different, so a slump is different for everyone. Therefore, there’s no way to prevent them set in stone. Mine often come along with my wellbeing, so that’s something I can’t influence. Trust me, I’ve tried a lot of things to get more energy during the darker seasons, but with no luck. So, you have to do what feels good for you when you feel yourself being in a slump.

for me, it often helps to push through with blogging, but find myself another writing style and change up things a bit. However, that’s not always helpful. But, slumps come and go and you know they will end eventually.

Do you find yourself in a blogging slump every now and then? or very often? Do they hit you unexpectedly or do you feel one coming? How do you prevent them or get out of them? Let me know in the comments!
