The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings Of A Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This week’s prompt:
14th – 20th – What is your go-to website to check out book reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)
As a book blogger it may sound weird, but I first and foremost use Goodreads to check out book reviews. Why? Because that’s quick and easy when I’m reading a book and I am not sure whether I like it or not. Star ratings say a lot to me as well. So, if people only leave stars without explaining why they rated that certain book that certain way, I still can make up my mind. However, I don’t like the way people leave early reviews on Goodreads for books that are just announced and ARCs haven’t even been provided. I don’t trust those reviews and reviewers in providing me with a fair opinion to be honest. That’s just me.
When I want to know more about a certain book and I see a book review popping up somewhere in my WordPress reader or Twitter, I click on the link to that blog to read the blogger’s thoughts. I especially do this with hyped books or books I’ve read myself.
For the Dutch people amongst us, I also use Hebban. I was an official reviewer there myself, but due to a lack of time (and therefore energy), I decided to quit. Also, I missed the casual reviewing and I found myself having a tough time writing reviews at all. Anyway, I only check out certain users’ reviews as well.
And what about The Storygraph? I use it, but only for the stats. I don’t like the community part on there. You can’t see other people’s friends and therefore I find it quite impossible to build something up on there.
So, this is where I get my book reviews from. What site or app is your go-to place to get book reviews?
