Okay how is it possible that the first quarter of the year is already over?! Time is going so fast it’s surreal. Anyway, it’s time to look back onto the month March. I finally got rid of that annoying cough I had, which was great. Furthermore, we got some snow in the first week of the month and that was so cold. Afterwards, we got our taste of spring, only to get back to colder weather. I also tried some new themes on the blog, but I haven’t found a suiting one yet. I also binge watched Daisy Jones & The Six and Aurora has been on repeat a lot here. Inbetween this all and work, I managed to read several books and let’s take a look into those.
The books I read
- Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston: I started this book in February, but didn’t manage to finish it that month. I had 50 pages or so left and I finished these on the first day of March. I really enjoyed this book, as you can see in my review. *****
- Het landhuis by Anne Jacobs: This is the first book in a historical fiction serie that has the former DDR as setting. It’s not translated into English. However, I felt like something was missing i this book. It’s interesting and such, but there was no full connection. ***
- These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong: A reread in my native language once the translation got published. Well, I happened to have missed a lot whilst reading this book inEnglish. Check my full review here. *****
- Anders, Beter by Lisa van Campenhout: An originally Dutch YA which didn’t really convince me. This was also the case with the previous book by this author. ***
- Schimmen by Fatma Aydemir: Yet again a book that hasn’t been translated into English. The writing style wasn’t for me, I didn’t appreciate the sudden and random flashbacks and the way the story has been written overall. ***
- I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver: I wanted to read this book ever since it got published in 2019. However, the English ebook and audiobook were not available in my country, so I couldn’t. Fortunately it got translated and you can’t imagine how happy that made me. I am not the right person to judge te rpresentation in this book, but I enjoyed reading it and the approach of the story. Review will be up ASAP. *****
- The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen: I will read the second novel in Dutch so this was just a reread to refresh my memory. ****
- Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree: And here you go, my first DNF of the year. I’m surprised it took me this long to be honest. I had high expectations because of all the rage on social media. Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. It leans a lot on vibes and I need more depth in my books. I need stakes, character development, plot, action et cetera. I know TJ Klune’s books also lean a lot on vibes, but I could enjoy these much more than Legends & Lattes. I called it the quits at 41% as I was so bored.
- The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty: Yet another reread in Dutch. *****
