Let’s Talk Bookish: Book Stopping Places

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted by Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Since April 2022, the meme moved to another host, Aria @ Book Nook Bits. Let’s Talk Bookish is a meme where participants discuss certain topics, share their opinions, and share their love by visiting each other’s posts.

This week’s topic is:

Book Stopping Places? (suggested by Fives @ Down the Rabbit Hole )

Prompts: Are you the type of reader able to stop reading just anywhere? In the middle of a sentence? Paragraph? Or do you need to reach the end of a chapter before stopping? What do you do if you can’t stop at a good point – do you have to go back right away to stop at a better place? Do you use bookmarks in a special way to remember where exactly you are? How uncomfortable does it make you to stop in the middle of an exciting part of the book, and how do you deal with that?

Are you the type of reader able to stop reading just anywhere? In the middle of a sentence? Paragraph? Or do you need to reach the end of a chapter before stopping?

Well, I’m that type of reader who is able to stop whenever and wherever i must. This probably has to do with the places I read in and also depends if I have to leave et cetera. On the commute to work, I just can’t choose whether to finish a chapter, a page or even a sentence when my station is getting closer. If I do so, I miss my stop and I will be late for work. This is just an example. So, reading whilst travelling taught me to be able to stop whenenver it’s needed.

What do you do if you can’t stop at a good point – do you have to go back right away to stop at a better place?

No. I can continue from the point where I left off. This has to do with what I’ve stated at the previous prompt. Also, I read only digital or listen to audiobooks, so going back doesn’t make any sense in my opinion.

Do you use bookmarks in a special way to remember where exactly you are?

No and honestly that’s the biggest advantage of consuming eboks and audiobooks, you don’t need to remember where you’ve left off since the app remembers this.

How uncomfortable does it make you to stop in the middle of an exciting part of the book, and how do you deal with that?

Oh that’s increadibly annoying, but sometimes you just can’t help it. Sometimes, you just need to stop reading otherwise there are consequences (e.g. missed stops, burned food LOL). Of course it makes me quite uncomfortable as I really want to know what’s going on and how the story will continue. How to fix this? By picking the book back up as soon as I can.

These are my thoughts on book stopping places. What about you? Are you the type of reader who is able to stop on a random point in a book or do you need to finish a sentence/page/chapter before you are able to put the book aside?
