This week’s hop is submitted by our host Billy and the question is:

Do you enjoy reading romance novels? If so, which romance trope is your favorite?

Yes, I enjoy reading romance novels. However, I have some recquirements. For instance, the storyline should have some depth. I don’t like the straight forward romances where it’s just the romance. I need more drama and emotions. I mean, I’d rather have some serious topics involved. I absolutely dilike the fake dating trope, I’m done with that. Can we leave that in 2021 and 2022 please?

Do you enjoy reading romance novels and what is your favorite trope? Or what trope do you dislike?

  1. I don’t usually set out to read romance, but I like it as an element in other genres, like historical fiction.

  2. I don’t read romance unless there is something else that the main plot.

  3. Seems like a lot of us prefer romance as just one feature of the plot, and I’m also getting the impression that the fake dating trope isn’t popular with BBH readers!

    1. It’s probably because we are often more advanced readers than the average BookTok audience, who really love this trope but that’s just an assumption.

I haven’t grown tired of the fake relationship trope yet, but then, I haven’t read a lot of them. Yet. Perhaps someday I will be. Other than that, I’m with you. I prefer my romance with substance–even the funny light hearted ones.

I hope you have a great weekend!

  5. I really don’t read romance that often, but when I do I like the young adult genre. “Bullies to romance” or high school drama. Lol, I know, it sounds like an ole lady trying to go back in time, hmm… 🤣 Happy Saturday Laurie!

I agree, romance stories with depth are the best!

  7. I enjoy a good romcom here and there, but like you, I do like some depth to it. It really makes all the difference.
