Book Blogger Hop | February 3-9

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings Of A Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s hop is submitted by Mark @ Carrstairs Considers and the question is:

What was your favorite genre to read as a child? Do you still read that genre, or do you read something else now?

As a child, I of course started reading childeren’s books. However, I outgrew them quite quickly. Since I was a child in the 90s and a teenagers in the early 2000s, YA was not even there. So, I couldn’t start reading YA till I was about 18 years old. In the meantime, I read mainly general fiction and thrillers. I still read these genres, but more general fiction. Thrillers seem all so similar to eachother lately. General fiction is not my favorite genre anymore, but I grow back into it slowly. Furthermoe, I read YA, romance, historical fiction and fantasy.

What about you? What was your favorite genre as a child and do you still read this genre nowadays?

  1. I’m not really sure what the genre was that I read, but I am guessing it was mystery since I read all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries. Perhaps that is all that was available?

Sort of difficult to figure out when you are young as you mentioned in my post.

Thanks for stopping by my Blog Hop.

  2. I used to read mysteries but now I enjoy reading fantasy and paranormal romances. Have a great weekend!

There does seem to be a wider range of YA than there was in the 80’s and 90’s, doesn’t there? It’s certainly better marketed now. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson was amazing (though I read that as an adult) and although I never tried the Sweet Valley High books, I know they were quite popular in their day. I was a huge fan of S.E. Hinton and read just about everything she wrote. I’m actually a little jealous of the variety and diversity in middle grade fiction that is out there these days that my daughter is able to read (and now me too). YA and MG fiction has such a different feel today than it did when I was growing up.

I agree about thrillers being so similar–I think that’s one of the reasons I mix up my genre reading like I do. I don’t want to burn out on any one genre. I enjoy so many!

I hope you have a great week!

  4. Hi Laurie,

I am just letting everyone know that I follow on BBH, etc. that I am going to try something new (well, new for me) out. I know that there are other memes similar to this, but I just thought I would do it since Lia doesn’t blog any longer. So let’s see how it goes. I have joined a lot of other memes so maybe you could ‘pay it forward’ and join mine and pass me on if you would be so kind 😉
