This week it’s time to look into my reading and blogging goals for 2023. The first weeks of the new year are the perfect time to set these goals for yourself and so did I.

Reading goals

In 2022, I set my reading goal to 150 books. However, I noticed that I couldn’t make it. Reading became a chore and I needed to push myself to pick up the books. So, when I noticed I finished 125 books back in November, I decided that was it and lowered my goal to 125. To prevent a similar scenario in 2023, I set my reading goal to 100 books. However, I want to read whatever I want to read without pushing myself en setting myself some extra challenges. Ballancing work and life is hard enough and I feel like setting myself extra reading goals is putting extra pressure on myself which makes me avoid reading. So, I will just be easy on myself this year and read whatever I feel like. Also, I would like to DNF more quickly. Many people say to keep reading a book because there’s always a chance it will get better. I stick to that as well, but I am not sure if I want to in 2023.

Blogging goals

In 2022, I felt myself drifting away from blogging more and more. I neglected my blog and the reviews I had to write a lot. I think I know why. I’m writing reviews for a Dutch reading platform as well and these have to be written by a certain standard. I feel like I’m trying super hard to stick to that standard on my blog too, even though my blog is my personal space and I can write my reviews however I want. They don’t need to be perrfect reviews, they are my reading thoughts and experiences. Furthermore, English is not my native language, so I’m being to hard on myself. I hope I can let it go and losen up more to be able to actually write reviews again.

Do I have more blogging goals? Actually no. I want to keep it small and simple so that blogging won’t feel like a chore. I want to enjoy it again and setting many goals for myself is something that won’t work for me.

What about you? What are your reading goals for 2023? Do you have a specific number of books, or particular genres you want to read? What are your blogging goals for 2023? What do you want to do differently with blogging than you did last year?

Interesting goal on DNFing! I might need to consider that as well, honestly. Great post, and good luck with these goal!

  2. I’ve lowered my reading goal this year a little too. I want to feel more free to spend time on longer books too, and on savouring what I -am- reading.

  3. Good reading goals! Similar to what I feel and want to do this year.
