2022 recap: January-March

2022 Is coming to an end which means that many people start wrapping the year up by looking back on the events of this past year. Yearly, we bookworms read many books, so do I. In this series I’ll be recapping 2022, starting today.

This week: the first quarter of the year.

January

In January, it’s time to set our goals for the year ahead. I’ve set my reading challenge at 150 books, because I managed to surpass that in 2021. This month, I was convinced I could make 150 books again and it actually started off quite well. I even had my first 5 stars this month, so that looked very promising.

  • Number of books finished: 16
  • Number of books DNF’ed: 2, The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid and The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton
  • Number of hauled books: 16
  • Number of these new books read in 2022: 7
  • 5-star reads: 2, Ariadne by Jennifer Saint and Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
  • Favorite book: Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
  • Books that disappointed me: Some girls do by Jennifer Dugan and a Dutch thriller

February

The month of February marked the start of many life changes. I got the key to my first rental home which meant that I would be moving out soon. However, this didn’t influence my reading time at all. I was still on track (or even ahead) of my reading challenge.

  • Number of books finished: 13
  • Number of books DNF’ed: 0
  • Number of hauled books: 15
  • Number of these new books read in 2022: 7
  • 5-star reads: 1, House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
  • Favorite book: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
  • Books that disappointed me: To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara and The Iron Sword by Julie Kagawa (sorry I’m not a fan of The Iron Fey)

March

In March, spring started early and quite good. I still had no trouble with my reading, despite the work on the house that needed to be done. Okay, I didn’t do a lot since I’m not really good at renovating.

  • Number of books finished: 15
  • Number of books DNF’ed: 2, The Bastard Factory by Chris Kraus and Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo (both because of the writing actually)
  • Number of hauled books: 22
  • Number of these books read in 2022: 12
  • 5-star reads: 1, The War of Two Queens by Jennifer Armentrout
  • Favorite book: Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski
  • Books that disappointed me: Gallant by V.E. Schwab and an originally German feelgood story

As you can see, the first quarter of the year was a good time in terms of reading. I was still on track with my challenge. However, this also marks the start of life changes and I’ll come back to that next week when I’ll recap April, May and June.

How was your first quarter fo 2022?
