It sounds really cliche, but where has this past half year gone? I have been very busy personally, but thankfully I’ve found enough time to read. I already surpassed the halfway mark of my goal of 150 books this year, ouch. Of course I have some favorites, surprises, but also disappointments. It’s time to tell you about them all in this year’s Mid-Year Freak Out Tag. This tag is originally created by booktubers Read Like Wildfire and Earl Grey Books a good while ago.
1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2022?
Well, this is a tough choice between 2 books. Since I need one of them for another question, I will go with Reminders Of Him by Colleen Hoover. It was my first 5-star read of the year.
2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2022?
Without a doubt, House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas. I was highly anticipating this sequel and I just couldn’t wait to start reading it once it was out in the world. And dang, that ending! Where is book 3? I need it ASAP.
3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?
Actually I would have gone with The Blood Traitor by Lynette Noni, but I picked this one up just last night and am flying through it. However, I really should have picked up The Words We Keep by Erin Stewart. Her previous book, Scars Like Wings, was one I thorougly enjoyed and put me out of a reading slump. So naturally, I’ve pre-ordered this one. It seems to be flying under the radar too, something that makes me even more curious. Why is it flying under the radar?
Besides, The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna came out recently as well. I read The Gilded Ones and gave it 5 stars, so I’m really curious for this sequel. I actually forgot about this release and my pre-order, oops.
4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2022?
Well, I haven’t been keeping up with new releases lately, but I must say It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover, The Ballad Of Never After by Stephanie Garber and A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout. These are al sequels and prequels though.
5. Biggest Disappointment?
There are quite a few books that didn’t meet my expectations, but overall my biggest disappointment was The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. I should have known since I don’t do well on “TikTok made me buy it” hypes.
6. Biggest Surprise?
For me, that was Twin Crowns by Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber. I was quite reluctant to pick it up as it sounded quite similar to Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. However, I got proven wrong. You can read more about this in my review.
7. Favorite New Author?
To be quite honest, I haven’t picked up much new-to-me uthors just yet, so I can’t point out a favorite.
8. Newest Fictional Crush?
Ha, I don’t have any. Sorry.
9. Newest Favorite Character?
I’ll stick with The Rampion Crew and The Inner Circle forever, don’t try me LOL.
10. Book That Made You Cry?
I’m not a book cryer, but Reminders Of Him got me close. Hence the five stars this early on in the year.
11. Book That Made You Happy?
Well, this is a tough question to answer. I cannot think of a specific one just yet. I’ve read so many different books and they all had their moments. Unless the books I’ve DNF’ed of course.
12. Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?
I haven’t been watching many shows lately, let alone movies. In this post I tell you more about it. I only watched Heartstopper, but I am not able to read graphic novels and am only on episode 5 since April, so that doesn’t count.
13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?
Oh wait, that one also fits the prompt for the book that surprised me the most this year. It was a Dutch review, so linking you guys to it doesn’t make much sense. However, it was for The Light of Luna Park by Addison Armstrong. It was one of my first reads of the year and it’s honestly so good.
14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?
I’ll skip this question since I only read ebooks or audiobooks.
15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?
Definitely Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare. I finally caught up on her series and especially Chain of Gold has been on my TBR for a good while.
